I am a retired college science professor. My graduate degree in microbiology is from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. I have taught at Texas A & M, Armstrong Atlantic University in Savannah, the University of Houston, and Houston Community College. Some of the courses I have taught are introductory biology, introductory chemistry, microbiology, cell biology, genetics and biochemistry.

Since my retirement I have tutored students in the subjects listed above as well algebra, geometry, trigonometry, earth science, history and literature. I have also assisted students in preparing for the SAT, ACT and other exams.

I have found that I really enjoy tutoring. It has given me the opportunity to meet and work with students of various backgrounds and learning needs. It is very gratifying to me to help a student in mastering course material and also improve their grade.

I am not myself a math whiz. I always did alright in my math courses, but I had to work hard. Therefore I have a natural empathy for students having trouble with math. I have found that many students need extensive review of fundamental concepts and math manipulations before they are ready to start to work on new topics. I am good at prealgebra, algebra I, geometry and trigonometry.

I have always enjoyed learning and sharing that enjoyment with others. I am very patient with those having problems with what are many times difficult topics. I always encourage my students to learn to appreciate the material the are studying because I am this help them understand the material and do better in the course they are taking.

Reviews

Extremely knowledgeable tutor

Roger helped me prepare for my first exam in microbiology. He went through all the material and helped me with the review for the exam. He was knowledgeable about all areas I needed help such as endoscopes and different types of bacteria. He is very patient and helpful and provided additional material for me to read.

Karen, 6 lessons with Roger

very knowledgeable and funny.

Has a very extensive understanding of the material we covered, very patient, uses more of a visual teaching method. All in all, a very kind man who knows his material and is very successful at helping one to understand.

Brianna, 2 lessons with Roger

He is very patient & knowledgeable. He explains the concepts very well!

He explained the structure of the atom and its theories in a very simple way. We work on concepts such as molecules, isotopes; significant digits and dimensional analysis. He also refreshed simple math concepts I had forgotten. He's very nice and understanding of the student & very approachable. I recommend Roger T!!!
