About Sara

Bio

I began my education career as a substitute teacher in grades 1 through 8. While pursuing my teacher certification, I did one-on-one and small group tutoring with students from kindergarten through high school in all subjects. I completed my student teaching in a 5th grade GT Social Studies classroom and fell in love with the subject. Mostly recently, I worked with Special Education students in 7th and 8th grade, assisting with all academic subjects.

I especially enjoy the one-on-one tutoring dynamic and have decided to dedicate myself to tutoring full-time. I love getting to know the particular student and really focusing on strengthening their weak spots through personalized instruction. My roots are in the humanities and I love sharing that passion with others, but I enjoy all learning, which is why I chose a Generalist Certification, which would allow me to teach any of the core subjects.

I have an English degree from Texas Woman's University and was considered Highly Qualified to teach that subject by Texas Teachers Alternative Certification program.

As an educator with Pearland ISD, I have received STAAR test training and have worked on STAAR prep and tutoring with junior high students.

I look forward to the opportunity to work together to reach your goals.

ADHD

ADHD

I have worked with students with ADD/ADHD as a student teacher, a tutor with Huntington Learning Center, and in my role at Pearland ISD in the SPED department. I have worked with them in the classroom, in small groups, and individually. I understand that students with ADD/ADHD can benefit from certain methods, such as incorporating more physical activity into a lesson or individual work or simply the use of background music.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I hold a generalist certification for grades 4 through 8. I completed my student teaching in a 5th grade classroom. I have also worked with students from kindergarten to 6th grade as a tutor and substitute teacher.
Elementary Math

4-8 Generalist Certification
Handwriting

Handwriting

I have worked one-on-one with students in tutoring and inside schools. I have worked with students who are just beginning handwriting and older students who need extra help with handwriting. I believe learning to write is all about clear instruction, plenty of practice, and a positive attitude.
Homeschool

Homeschool

In addition to being a certified teacher and an experienced tutor, I was homeschooled myself in high school and am very familiar with the individualized nature of homeschooling and various techniques and practices.
Social Studies

Social Studies

I hold a 4-8 Generalist Certification. I completed my student teaching internship in a 5th grade Social Studies classroom, where I planned and implemented lessons. As an aide, I have worked with students on DBQs and other history/social studies lessons.
STAAR

STAAR

I have worked with students in preparation for the STAAR test, received trainings on STAAR, and helped administer the STAAR on testing dates.

Patient and Kind

Sara was very good with Olivia. Olivia was very shy in the beginning and Sara was very patient with her. Olivia is excited for her next tutoring session.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Sara tutored my granddaughter in second grade math last night for the first time. Sara helped her with her basic math skills and also with her homework. My granddaughter and her family lost their home during the flood in August. As a result, she had to change schools. I think this tutoring will help her feel more comfortable in her new school and with her school work.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Sara was happy to meet with us prior to becoming our daughter's tutor. She spent her time getting to know us and discuss our goals for tutoring. Sara also spent a few minutes getting to know our daughter and was able to assess her best learning techniques and incorporated those in her future sessions. She is very patient and caring with our daughter. Her teaching skills have been effective in helping our daughter overcome some anxiety that she feels when taking quizzes/tests. She is also very thorough and takes her time helping our daughter go over coursework taught in the classroom and her assigned homework.
