About Gautam

I am currently an Associate Professor at a local Houston university. I have been a full-time professor since 2009. I am also an adjunct professor at another local Houston university where I teach part time. My main areas of teaching are of criminal justice, political science and public management. I have taught students at the undergraduate freshmen level all the way to graduate school.

I have a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Rutgers University and am working on my second master’s degree at Rice University. I expect to complete my second master’s degree by May 2018. I also attended law school for a year and although I decided it was not the right fit for me after a year, I retained an invaluable wealth of experience and knowledge which I am always willing to share.

Although I may not have specific current knowledge of individual areas of study, I did go through high school like everyone else. Moreover, I do hold a Ph.D. which only 1% of the U.S. population has as well as working on a second master’s degree. I think my academic credentials speak for itself in terms of my having the requisite intelligence and competence to learn and teach.

1)American and World History- I was a History minor in college and am also a member of the National History Honor Society- I believe that the value and usefulness of history, whether it is U.S. or international history or other countries’ histories is invaluable and needs to be taken seriously. As our nation grows more multicultural and diverse, in order to create more peacefulness in society it’s a good thing to be well versed in history.
2)Geography- Geography is becoming increasingly more important as our world becomes increasingly interdependent on various nationalities and cultures.
3)Sociology- I have worked on several papers and often use sociological theories in my classes. Sociology theories are applicable in a wide variety of academic disciplines.
4)Proofreading/Editing and assistance with writing papers in English class or for college admissions/acceptance- I scored a perfect score on the GRE Writing Sample which only 4% of test takers score each year. I also was first published when I was just 11 years old.
5)Reading- I scored a perfect score on the reading test here on Wyzant. I am extremely good at reading comprehension. Additionally I scored a perfect score on the GRE Writing Sample.
6)College admissions and advice for the first year- In our country 36% of entering students can finish in 4 years and 57% will finish in 6 years. What this means is that really almost 50% of students (43% to be exact) will not finish college in 6 years and after 6 years their federal aid runs out. More than often these students will not be able to finish college and will accumulate mounting college debt. However, there are ways to strategize and overcome academic challenges in the first year. I can teach a student how to do this.

Finally, I do not charge for the first introductory hour. I believe a student and a teacher should meet first, discuss what areas of concern are and come up with a specific plan to work and grow. I also believe this is a relationship and it takes time to build. An hour is a sufficient amount of time to see if a relationship can work. I encourage you to message me so we can meet and talk. After all, what harm is there in talking?

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

Currently, I am a full-time professor in Houston. I have been working as a full-time professor for six years. I advise students on issues of college class registration, student loan financial issues and other matters of college life as I can provide each semester.

Criminal Justice

Currently, I am a full-time Assistant Professor in the Administration of Justice department at Texas Southern University. I have been teaching courses on Public Administration and Criminal Justice since 2009. I have a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Rutgers University (graduated in 2009) and I have also been published in several journals on criminal justice. If necessary, I can provide my transcripts.

Study Skills

I have been a full-time professor in Houston since 2009. I have been advising students on study skills since then. Each semester, I have been presenting information on effective and efficient study skill tips in 2 separate classes. My students have informed me that the study skill tips are useful and their grades do go up after attending my sessions.
Additionally, I have been a student in higher education for over ten years-B.A., a year in law school, M.P.A. and a Ph.D. I am also working on my second master's degree part time at Rice University.

Very professional and knowledgeable

Gautam helped my son writing a college admission essay. He is well educated and very knowledgeable in this process. The session is quite formal and he even brought his projector for a presentation. At the same time, he could communicate with my son quite well. They did have a good and productive discussion. I would highly recommend this tutor.
