Regarding education and teaching experience, I taught English Mechanics and Composition at Westbury Christian High School during the 2010-11 school year. I taught English and Debate at The Harmony School of Ingenuity in 2012. I earned a Master’s Degree in English in 2016 from the University of Houston. I earned a Master’s Degree in Teaching from Rice in 2021. In 2023, I earned AP Certification for “English Language and Composition for Experienced Teachers.” I am an approachable and patient person, and I always look forward to meeting new students.

I have tutored several high schoolers in essay writing, sentence improvement, essay comprehension and vocabulary skills required for standardized tests. I have a knack for doing well on my own standardized tests. On my SAT, I scored an 800 on the verbal portion and an 800 on what was then called the "Writing SAT II." More recently, I scored in the top 92% of the Graduate Records Exam, a test required for entry into graduate school.

I taught high school English Mechanics and Composition during the 2010-2011 school year. The class centered on improving writing skills; consequently, I covered plenty of grammar topics in depth. Last year I attended Rice University's Masters in Teaching program, in which I focused on English for grades 8-12.

Literature is my first love. I have written innumerable papers analyzing literary themes, the writing styles of varied authors, the context in which the work was written as well as many other aspects vital to the study of literature. I wrote such papers for undergraduate as well graduate literature courses, including my year-long thesis required by the honors program from which I graduated.

I graded many a student paper as a grammar and composition teacher, enabling me to quickly spot errors and suggest solutions. When writing my own papers, I enjoy editing and improving sentences more than any other aspect of the composition process. Additionally, I worked as a proofreader and copy-editor for a Houston publishing firm after graduating from college.

I still love expanding my own vocabulary when I come across obscure words. I am talented in helping students use their vocabulary words the most appropriate context.

I received an 800 on the writing portion of my SAT. I have written hundreds of papers in my undergraduate and graduate career. In addition, I taught high school English Grammar and Composition. The "composition" portion of the class focused on the most effective means to convey one's thoughts and opinions through the written word.

Excellent tutor!

Alex is an excellent tutor! He is very knowledgeable about writing skills, literature, and ways to improve essays and longer papers. He has excellent advice on how to improve one’s writing. I have submitted several of my papers to him that had been graded by previous professors for various classes. I turned in papers to a number of different professors for different types of courses. Alex always had suggestions that helped me achieve higher grades even though I was doing pretty well. Alex had many suggestions for improvement that I had not thought of before--both in making large-scale changes and helping with editing and research. Also, he presented me with helpful handouts that explained the suggestions he commented on. I am an older student who has returned to school recently and was looking for a tutor who could help me improve my writing skills. He is by far the best tutor that I have worked with.
