I am determined to help students to succeed in the classroom! I graduated from Harvard University in 2008 and am looking to provide intensive and personalized academic tutoring to students from all backgrounds. Education serves as a critical tool to facilitate the development of future leaders that will revolutionize the world! As an experienced tutor, I work diligently with my students to nurture their gifts so that their educational experience is fun, engaging, and rewarding.

I have valuable experience tutoring students in critical subject areas such as mathematics, science, English, and reading comprehension. Additionally, I help students to prepare for required standardized tests such as the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR). I inculcate my students on effective critical thinking and problem solving strategies to improve their academic performance. Consistent practice and repetition tend to facilitate the biggest improvements observed in my students; therefore, I always provide them with additional opportunities to engage with their academic subjects outside the classroom. Furthermore, I believe in a collaborative and hands-on approach and will work with my students to identify their strengths and weaknesses and to help them improve their studying habits, test-taking skills, and time-management.

I look forward to connecting with students and helping them to improve their performance. Please contact me directly if you have any additional questions. Thank you!

Elementary (K-6th)

I believe that I am qualified tutor Elementary (K-6th) students due to the fact that I have more than 10 years of working with students in this area. I accrued a multitude of skills and strategies and educate my students on critical areas such as reading and pronouncing words correctly, making inferences and drawing conclusions, and helping my students to identify the main idea and themes within the texts that they read. Additionally, I work with students in elementary mathematics and help them to master the fundamental skills to excel in this subject area such as, counting, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing single digit and multiple digit numbers, and working with fractions. Furthermore, I instruct my students on taking great notes and critical test taking strategies to help them to pass required state examinations such as the STAAR test and MCAS, respectively. I believe that it is imperative to build and to cultivate the basic skills, which creates a solid foundation for the students as they continue to grow as learners.

Study Skills

With over ten years of experience in tutoring students in a wide variety of subjects, I believe that my biggest strengths as a tutor are my ability to improve my student's problem solving, critical thinking, and studying skills. I am a proponent of active studying techniques, meaning that I will work diligently with my students to continually improve their ability to absorb and to readily recall important concepts to help them to improve within their subject area. Rather than passively engaging with the material, I help my students to make study flash cards, to take better notes when reading the text, to make create mnemonic devices to remember specific concepts, and to create practice questions to continually test whether they understand the material. When studying, I want my students to focus on the bigger picture and to analyze how the parts of the text or problem contribute to the larger main idea or concept that is being tested. Lastly, I encourage my students to be become more efficient with their studying time. I believe in breaking their studying time in to smaller portions, which allows them to concentrate solely at the task at hand and to maximize their ability to learn. These techniques tend to facilitate the biggest improvements observed in my students.

Patient

Mr. Hector is working with our 6 year old son. He is teaching him different strategies to improve his reading comprehension. My son gets distracted very easy and needs the one in one attention

Ruby, 7 lessons with Hector

Exceptional

Hector has made a great impact on my 9th grade (teenager) son's understanding in Algebra I. My son went from a 67 test grade in Algebra to an 85 on his most recent test after only 2 sessions with Hector. My son said, "Hector made it very simple to understand now". Per Hector, "85 is good but we are shooting for 90's". I must say I am very impressed with Hector's knowledge and patience. Motivating a teenager to like Algebra isn't easy.

Shirley, 10 lessons with Hector

Well prepared and professional.

Hector came prepared to discuss concepts that needed more attention to help my daughter take her test. Very professional. He seems to be genuinely interested in helping my daughter apply the concepts to solve problems.

Cynthia, 6 lessons with Hector

Easy to understand

Hector breaks things down for my grandsons to where they can understand! Concepts are easily explained and he puts them at ease so that they can open up with any questions.

Quinzola, 3 lessons with Hector

Initial Assessment

Great 1st meeting ... Christian loves learning so I believe Hector’s ability to peak Christians interest at the first meeting will only assist with improving his math skills and reading comprehension As a parent I think this will be a great fit

Tracey, 3 lessons with Hector

Very knowledgeable & creative

Works hard and very effective with connecting with my son. A major success factor. My son is learning the concepts, not just trying to memorize or guess at the solutions

Norman, 37 lessons with Hector

Always On Call

Hector, is a wonderful tutor. He takes his time explaining math word problems to my 8 yr. old daughter. I recently asked Hector to answer a word problem via text and he gladly and promptly obliged. I highly recommend him as a professional and personable tutor.

Torri, 5 lessons with Hector

Patient and Encouraging Tutor

Hector has helped my 4th grader to develop a passion for reading. (She previously had a strong dislike for reading.) Also, he is helping her to do better with reading comprehension.

Arthena, 68 lessons with Hector

Prepared and Enthusiastic Tutor

I was very impressed with how organized Hector is and how he came prepared with interesting and comprehensive assessment materials for my child. My son raved about him after his tutoring session and he is looking forward to working with Hector going forward.
