I have been a private tutor for almost fifteen years. My students are often college or graduate students with English as their second language. For these students I have provided a cultural and conceptual bridge between cultures. I also have experience coaching community college students with all writing assignments, including applications for scholarships. If working on Art History papers or test preparation, I am open to museum visits for enrichment purposes as I have spent much of my life visiting the great art museums of the world in order to learn about culture, history, and aesthetics. It would be my pleasure to share my knowledge with a new group of students. I am also comfortable with literature papers and history assignments. My students have shown great improvements after working with me. In addition to traditional tutoring services I have also provided coaching for college and job interviews.
My approach to tutoring is based on the particular needs of the student. Through active listening I am able to discern and pinpoint both immediate and long-term learning objectives in order to make sessions both productive and enlightening. Over the years I have developed organizational and conceptual techniques for term paper writing that save the student precious time and reduce angst. I emphasize the practical while encouraging creativity and imagination. My students become efficient in completing their work in a timely manner and so come to enjoy their academic years.

I am very lucky to find Ms. Mary Ann. Her expertise in several college subjects makes her a special and well-educated person that can help just about anyone. Mary Ann came at the last minute for a first time tutoring. She and My daughter immediately established a positive working rapport and successfully studied for an impending test on Mayan Civilizations and discussed an upcoming research paper. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. I have had extensive academic experience in the study of architectural history from ancient to modern and contemporary periods. I have also tutored graduate level architectural students in architectural history and theory classes. These sessions required extensive reading of related materials and analysis of complex, philosophical issues related to architecture. I had the opportunity to coach one student at Rice University through an entire academic year. This consisted of three meeting per week for the required time period. I currently tutor an architectural student at least twice weekly for architectural theory and history classes.
I have had years of study in Greek and Roman Art History at the graduate and undergraduate levels. As part of my degree from Fordham University I was required to study Ancient Greek philosophy from the pre Socratics to Plato to Aristotle. I have also had exposure to Neo Platonism through Plotinus and Italian Rennaisance Art History. I was required to read Heroditus, Thucidyus, Josephus, Eusebius, and other Classical historians throughout my academic career and I have also read the Greek dramatists, Sophocles, Aristophanes, and Euripedes.
I have successfully coached many students with college essays and scholarships. This kind of work is very enjoyable for me as I can eventually experience the outcome of the work when the student is finally accepted at the college of their choice. I have been working with English test prep and writing students for fifteen years. Most of my students have English as their second language but many are native speakers. Most are college level. I emphasize sentence and paragraph structure as well as vocabulary in my lessons. I scored a 780 out of 800 on the GRE exam so I have experienced the test taking process myself, and been successful.

I have an interest in questions about historical truth and the relativity of historical narrative and interpretation. For me, History is a never ending source of exploration of beauty, culture, and human nature.
