Enthusiastic and Patient Spanish Tutor

Hello, my name is Mariangel. I was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and have lived in the United States for 29 years. I graduated from La Marque High School and am currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Psychology.

My teaching journey began one summer when I started teaching Spanish to children. This led to an opportunity to teach Senior Adult Education at another campus in my area. I have over 12 years of experience tutoring children aged 4 to 18 and five years working with adults. After a brief hiatus to focus on personal growth, I began teaching Spanish informally to coworkers and friends, which inspired me to return to tutoring part-time.

I started tutoring high school students in 2009, where my first student improved her grade from a 52 to an 88 by the end of the semester. I focus on one-on-one instruction, emphasizing grammar, sentence structure, verb conjugations, adjectives and adverbs, spelling, and native expressions. Learning a language takes dedication, and as someone who learned English to adapt to a foreign country, I understand the challenges. I create my own teaching materials and methods, often incorporating humor to keep lessons engaging. For students with institutional curricula, I align lessons with their materials and frequently assess their understanding to reinforce learning.

Beyond teaching, I’m a Zumba instructor and earned a degree in Sign Language and Transliteration in 2022. I’m currently working toward certification as an American Sign Language Interpreter. Additionally, I work in Public Service and am a proud mother of three teenagers, including twins. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, exploring the outdoors, watching movies, and spending time with my family.
