Algebra 1

Algebra 1

What can I say about Algebra, other than it is the cornerstone of all advanced mathematics. Calculus, Trig, Geometry and others hinge on your understanding of the fundamentals of algebra. This is my favorite subject to teach, why? Because there are multiple ways to find the right answer, and I can always find a way to help the student understand the material in their own way. Furthermore, I like to use dry erase boards and simplify the equations down to workable easy solutions. Each Algebra problem is like reading a map, you have a start and an end, and the journey can be enlightening as well as exciting. All you have to bring is your motivation and effort, I'll provide the rest.
ASVAB

ASVAB

Let me first start off by telling you I'm in no way affiliated with any armed forces. Now let me follow up with the fact that when I took the ASVAB proficiency test supplied by WyzAnt, I passed with nearly a perfect score. Why am I telling you this? Because of the simple fact that test taking in standardized tests has very little to do with the subject matter and a lot to do with how to take standardized tests. Let me be there for you to show you the tricks and how to avoid common pitfalls. Standardized tests are not about 'learning the material' because if it was they wouldn't try to trick you around every corner. Let's work together to make you successful.
Basketball

Basketball

I am extremely experienced and qualified to teach someone to play basketball. I have been following the sport for over 25 years, and I learned how to play when I was the ripe age of 4. I have been on numerous organized sports teams from my primary and secondary schooling years. Additionally, I'm an avid sports watcher, so I keep up with the new players, as well as their stats. I play basketball with friends nearly every week, and the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, shooting, and overall gameplay is easy to learn. We are accepting of new people to our weekly game. If you want someone who is patient, who will walk you through the steps, of defense, offense, strategy, gameplay, and how to have fun and learn how to get a great excercise. I'm the person for you. Another part of basketball is learning to use your body that best benefits you, just because you are tall doesn't mean you should only play center, likewise, just because you're short doesn't mean you have to stand beyond the 3 point line. Play to your strengths, and learn at a pace that is comfortable with you. After all, unless you've got Nike scouts coming to see you, you're probably wanting to learn to play just for the pure joy and excercise of it just like me. I look forward to hearing from you.
Career Development

Career Development

Career Development - After I graduated from college with my BS in Mechanical Engineering, it took me nearly 2 years to find a job in my field due to the terrible economic times. Rather than sulk at home I decided that I had to make a living some how. As a result I took a crash course in echocardiography (Sonograms for the heart), and I became a certified technologist in this field. For two solid years I worked in Emergency Rooms, Offices, Hospitals, diagnosing patients from 15 yrs of age all the way up to nearly 100 years old. The point of this background is that I believe that I have the ability and the tools necessary to help anyone get their career on track. I have taken several courses in resume development, technical writing, and in my current company it has taken me about 5 years, but I am extremely involved and important to the daily activities that my company is involved in. Career Development is about your present, using what you've learned in the past, that will help to shape your future. Life comes at you fast, so it is up to you to take life by the horns and get control of your future. Career Development has nothing to do with sucking up, or by using your connections, career development is all about hard work, effective work, and perseverance. If you put in the time, the effort, and strategic planning, I can guarantee that you will be successful in all career choices that you make.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

Elementary Math....the fundamental why to the math question of 1+1=2. When I teach math, I teach in a way that provides enlightenment, understanding, and leaves you wanting more. I can talk about math all day long, and I generally practice every day to keep my own skills sharp. I'll show you how to be effective, tools on being efficient, and how to do math in your head. A tool you'll likely thank me for years down the line.
General Computer

General Computer

General Computer Experience: I have been lucky enough to be part of the age of computers. I have owned a computer since they became common in the early 90's. Since that time I have built several of my own custom computers using separate parts and my own designs. I have a wealth of software, hardware, and troubleshooting experience. I have over 15 years of computer experience. I can help with application development, networking, software troubleshooting, productivity software, internet, audio software, video software, and interfacing with the client. Additionally, I have the ability to troubleshoot common windows problems without resorting to reformatting your hard drive. I consider my abilities to be advanced with general computer help. I use a computer every day for my work, for about 12 hours per day. I have no issues with opening up a computer, performing general maintenance, fixing computers, or providing help to anyone who wants to learn how to maintain their computers.
Geography

Geography

How many of you have ever wanted to climb Mount Rushmore, or visit the Rocky Mountains? Okay so you probably have heard of those places or have a general idea of their location. But do you know where the Himalayas are? Have you ever wanted to visit an island where you stay in the water as made famous by Couples Retreat? Did you know that islands are really dormant volcanoes? Why is the world shaped the way it is? Find out in geography!
Geometry

Geometry

Pythagorean Theorem, more laws than the constitution itself. Geometry at face value is a bunch of shapes and angles, but the root of geometry is a complex math. When you truly learn Geometry you'll be able to look at nearly any shape (in math and in life) and figure out angles, percentages, and lengths. I find this particularly helpful when I'm arguing with my friends about how much % of pizza I got in comparison to them. While I say that in jest, it is remarkable how many people lack the fundamental understanding of geometry.
Grammar

Grammar

Have you ever found a misspelled word on a public flyer or brochure and it irked you? Have you ever downloaded computer software and the grammar was so bad it made you question the software's integrity? Don't be one of the perpetrators of this would be illegal crime. Learn your grammar! Learn how to make sentences effective, understand what a thesis can do for you. Spell check! Learn about subjects and verbs and why they are so important. Just ask Yoda!
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

I have over 15 years of experience with using all versions of Microsoft Excel. I use the program daily for my profession, and I've developed stock portfolios, project databases, forms, macros, and multi-stage dynamic linking spreadsheets. I'm proficient with formulas and financial minded worksheets. My teaching style is hands-on and I believe in positive reinforcement with constant practice.
Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook

I have used Microsoft Outlook for over 10 years in my professional career. As one of my roles in the company, I serve as an Engineering IT specialist, helping folks with setting up their emails, customizing the views, and setting up meetings. I have knowledge of webmeetings, WebExes, customizing PST's and of course all the details that have to do with emails and accounts, etc.
Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have over 20 years of experience using PowerPoint. From my high school days of creating custom creative compositions, to my final projects in college which included motion video, cinematic productions and technical slides. In my current profession, I create and manage powerpoints on a weekly basis and I would consider my skills to be "expert" level for design, presentation, and execution of a powerpoint.
Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows

I have over 15 years of experience with Microsoft Windows. My first experience started when I was a teenager with Windows 3.1, when I built my first computer. I have built several machines, with every edition of Windows. I'm familiar with regedit, dos command prompts, customization of windows, how to fix general errors, folder structure, stopping/starting services, MSCONFIG, networking, and virus protection.
Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word

Whether you want to hire me because I've written a 210 page book, or because I'm proficient with all features of the program, or because I'm a technical writer who has published articles in my career, or you just want someone to teach you the basics of the program, I can assure you that I'll be there for you regardless of what you want to learn.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Ah math, some people love it, and others hate it. Math and Pre-algebra in its purest form is the basis of all advanced math including algebra, trig, geometry, and calculus. You probably don't realize it, but you do algebra every single day if you pay with cash. I love teaching math, because i love learning about new people and their interests and then relating math to something that interests my students. It is a beautiful process to teach math because once you get it, you just get it and like riding a bicycle... you'll never forget it.
Proofreading

Proofreading

Have you ever written a paper the night before it was due? Studies show that the first thoughts you type or write on a piece of paper are roughly 50% thought out. Can you imagine, turning in your 50% half-thought out draft in for a grade? Why victimize yourself because you didn't have time to read and proofread your work, let me do that for you. I promise you several things: 1. I'll make you a better writer. 2. I'll show you how to fix avoidable mistakes, and 3. You will enjoy the art and the science of proofreading. Note, I did not actually proofread this qualification summary, but had I done so, I'm sure it would look completely different. Why pick me? Because I have a sense of humor and I can take a joke. But most of all pick me because I care about my students and I love the teaching and learning process.
PSAT

PSAT

PSAT, SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT - these 3 and 4 letter words almost sound like curse words to most. To me they sound like friends, or at least would-be friends. These tests are like those puzzles that drive you crazy. The answers are all simple, you get multiple choices, but in some cases multiple choice can be your worst nightmare...especially if you're unprepared. Let me be your guide, I'll show you how to master these tests without sweating a bit. Learn how to solve problems and get the right answer without writing anything down. No gimmick, no games, just an understanding of how these writers try to trick students.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

In my 8 years as an engineer, I've given hundreds of presentations on various technical topics and sales presentations to a variety of crowds. I know in any public speaking event, one needs to be prepared with the technical knowledge, proper attire and poise, and be armed with the tools necessary to mitigate unforeseen circumstances. Additionally, I've started a Training Program and I've given over 50 training classes in the last 6 months, requiring constant public speaking.
Spelling

Spelling

Definately, Mispelled, Comittee, Recieve, Reccomend, Vaccuum, Ain't, They're, Their, accepted, Except, Affect, Effect, There, Compliment, Complement, ... If you think all these words are spelled correctly, we need to have a few tutoring sessions to bring your game up a few levels. I've been playing scrabble since I was 5 years old. I've entered in spelling competitions and won. Don't rely on your memory... you have enough to worry about. Learn how to spell based on word etymology... meaning the origin of words. You'll gain an understanding of our language and a side effect will be proper spelling and use of words.
Study Skills

Study Skills

Request for Study Skills Certifications: I believe that study skills starts from the student's diligence and mind set. I am a firm believer that there should be no distractions to the student (from TV, ipods, internet, or even a pretty environment). Next, the student should not have any food that requires time to chew or eat it. The study environment should be well equipped with resources, quiet, yet accessible throughout hours of the day. I consider myself an expert on this topic because I have learned how to sit down for hours at a time to understand everything from fluid dynamics to writing 40 page papers for classes in college. Furthermore, my job function in my career attests to my abilities to having good study skills because I can sit for hours without becoming distracted when I need to find solutions to difficult engineering problems. The aspects students should focus on the most are listed as follows: 1. Environment 2. Noise / distractions 3. Having enough space, enough paper, enough of everything before you start 4. Set your goal of what you need to study before you begin. 5. Make sure the goal exceeds your own expectations. 6. Allow yourself plenty of time for the study skills to develop 7. No phones, internet, TV, or music allowed during this time. 8. Repetition is key. The key to learning is to study, learn, repeat.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

SOH-CAH-TOA...the famous phrase everyone learns and dreads in TRIG. This simple acronym is a pillar of Trig and simply understanding the meaning of this can open up a whole new world to you in this advanced mathematics class. Don't be afraid of the derivations and proofs, embrace them because at the end of the day you'll find that trig opens the door to calculus and beyond.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

I could write a long paragraph about all the big words I know, but thats not the point of vocabulary. I see expanding ones vocabulary as a way to communicate better, and not only to sound smart, but to actually know what you're saying. Sometimes the best word to fill in the blank isn't the longest or toughest to spell, its the word that makes the most sense. My take on vocabulary is that one should use it wisely and with a conservative temperament.
