Hi! My name is Aicha and I am a PhD student studying Genetics and Cancer Biology at MD Anderson Cancer Center! I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Physics with a specialization in Biophysics from UC San Diego and completed three years of postbaccalaureate biomedical research training at Stanford University. My training has given me a strong foundation in biology, genetics, physics, and mathematics, along with years of experience teaching and mentoring students.

I know science can feel overwhelming when classes move quickly or explanations seem more complicated than they need to be. My approach is to break down difficult concepts into smaller, manageable pieces, identify where something stopped making sense, and build from there. I emphasize critical thinking over memorization so students can apply what they learn to new problems and become more confident working independently.

At Stanford, I trained undergraduate and graduate students in cell and molecular biology concepts and experimental research techniques. I’ve also worked extensively in STEM education and outreach, developing interactive science activities for K–12 students and mentoring students interested in STEM and research careers. These experiences have taught me to adapt my teaching style to how each student learns best.

I tutor K–12 through college-level biology and genetics, algebra and precalculus, and physics. I can help with course material, homework, exam preparation, scientific reasoning, and problem-solving. I’m also happy to review college application materials and advise students interested in pursuing higher education.

Whether you’re preparing for an exam, struggling with a particular topic, or looking to broaden your knowledge, I’d be happy to help. Feel free to reach out with any questions and tell me what you’re working on!

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Physics with a specialization in Biophysics, giving me a strong foundation in mathematics and quantitative problem-solving. I can help students with Algebra 1 topics including equations and inequalities, functions, graphing, systems of equations, exponents, polynomials, and factoring
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Physics with a specialization in Biophysics, which provided extensive training in mathematics and quantitative problem-solving. I can help students with Algebra 2 topics including functions, systems of equations, polynomials, rational and radical expressions, exponents, logarithms, and introductory trigonometry
Biology

Biology

I am a PhD student in Genetics and Cancer Biology with a broad academic and research background in the biological sciences. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Physics with a specialization in Biophysics, where my coursework included foundational and evolutionary biology alongside physics and quantitative sciences, and I have since gained extensive experience in cell and molecular biology, genetics, and cancer biology through biomedical research. I can help students with topics ranging from cell structure, metabolism, evolution, and basic physiology to DNA, gene expression, cell signaling, and disease biology. My goal is to help students understand how biological concepts connect rather than simply memorize facts, making complex material easier to reason through and apply
Career Development

Career Development

I have over five years of experience mentoring students in STEM and am particularly equipped to support undergraduates interested in graduate school, postbaccalaureate programs, and research careers. I completed a competitive biomedical research postbaccalaureate program at Stanford University before working as a research professional and ultimately entering a PhD program in Genetics and Cancer Biology at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Through my own application experiences and mentoring roles, I have extensive experience with CVs, personal statements, research statements, NIH-style biosketches, fellowship applications, and identifying research and training opportunities. I can help students develop an application strategy, articulate their research interests and experiences, and prepare strong materials for graduate, postbac, and research programs.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have a strong quantitative background from my bachelor’s degree in Physics and current PhD training, along with several years of experience working with K–12 students through STEM education and outreach. I can help elementary students strengthen foundational skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and basic geometry and problem-solving. I focus on breaking problems into simple, understandable steps and adapting explanations to how each student learns best. My goal is to help students build both strong math fundamentals and the confidence to tackle problems independently.
Genetics

Genetics

I am a PhD student specializing in Genetics and Cancer Biology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where my research examines how genetic alterations contribute to cancer development. I have several years of genetics research experience and am familiar with CRISPR/Cas9-based approaches, genetically engineered mouse models, gene expression analysis, and RNA sequencing. My previous research at Stanford University investigated the p53 tumor-suppressor pathway and resulted in a peer-reviewed publication in Cell Death & Differentiation examining cooperative genetic interactions involved in tumor suppression. This combination of formal graduate training and hands-on research experience has given me a strong foundation in genetics ranging from Mendelian inheritance and gene expression to advanced molecular and cancer genetics.
Physics

Physics

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Physics with a specialization in Biophysics from UC San Diego, where I completed extensive coursework in mechanics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, waves, and other areas of physics. My interdisciplinary training also taught me how to connect physics concepts to real-world problems in biology and other sciences. I focus on helping students understand the principles behind equations rather than simply memorizing formulas, while developing a systematic approach to quantitative problem-solving.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Physics with a specialization in Biophysics, giving me a strong foundation in mathematics and quantitative problem-solving. I can help students with prealgebra topics including fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios and proportions, negative numbers, exponents, variables, basic equations, and introductory geometry. I focus on helping students understand the reasoning behind mathematical concepts while breaking problems into clear, manageable steps. My goal is to strengthen foundational skills, build confidence, and prepare students for a successful transition into Algebra 1.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Physics with a specialization in Biophysics, which required extensive coursework in mathematics and its application to scientific problems. I can help students with precalculus topics including functions and their graphs, polynomial and rational functions, exponentials and logarithms, trigonometry, and sequences and series.
