Hello! My name is Mariah, and I'm a college graduate with a degree in Criminal Justice from Lone Star College and am currently continuing my education at Sam Houston State University. I'm an aspiring attorney who genuinely enjoys learning and helping others succeed academically. I have experience working with elementary, middle, and high school students, including experience as an elementary school substitute teacher and teacher assistant supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I have also studied a variety of subjects at the college level, including English I and II, Technical Communication, Public Speaking, Music History, Texas Government, Federal Government, U.S. History I and II, African American Studies, and Criminal Justice. I have earned A's in my English courses, and my 21-page research essay received a perfect score and is currently being used as a resource in other English courses.
My approach to tutoring is patient, encouraging, and focused on helping students understand rather than simply giving them the answer. I believe every student learns differently, so I take the time to explain concepts in a way that makes sense to the individual student and create a comfortable environment where they can ask questions without feeling embarrassed. I can help students with writing, vocabulary, reading and comprehension, history, government, public speaking, music history, and other subjects within my areas of experience. I also have 13 years of trumpet experience, including performing in jazz band, concert band, Regional Band, and my current church orchestra, and I enjoy helping students develop their musical skills and confidence. Whether a student needs help understanding a difficult assignment, preparing for an exam, improving their writing, or simply building confidence, my goal is to meet them where they are and help them recognize what they are capable of accomplishing.
