Hi! I'm Andrew, a recent high school graduate who is attending Syracuse University in the fall to study sport analytics, a math-based program with a 5% acceptance rate. I am a member of National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society. I scored a 790 on the math section of the SAT, and had my best grades in high school in my math classes.
I volunteered at Spring Spirit LEER every Monday this past school year, where I helped elementary aged, Spanish speaking children learn how to read, write, and speak english. I like to build relationships with the children, as not only can I be a mentor and role model for them, but it also increases their comfortability with making mistakes, which is how they often learn best. At Spring Spirit, I was responsible for 4-6 kids per session for an hour at a time, and we read at least one short book per session, as well as played content games, making the learning fun for them. I loved seeing each of the children I taught improve over the course of the year, not only in their literacy capabilities but also in their confidence in their skills.
I want to help students learn math in the way that works best for them, as each student is different. Whether it's in person or remote, I look forward to helping not only the student, but the person that I teach grow.
