Hello! I am a professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Houston, where I have taught and conducted research since 2021. My research focuses on geomechanics, including how soils fail under load and how frozen ground behaves in cold regions. I have mentored students at every stage of the civil engineering pipeline, from first-year undergraduates to doctoral students. I was honored to receive the 2025–2026 Teaching Excellence Award from the Cullen College of Engineering, which reflects what I care about most as a teacher: meeting students where they are and helping them build physical intuition that lasts beyond a single course.
My specialty as a tutor is civil and geotechnical engineering, including soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and geomechanics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I also support students in the broader engineering mechanics sequence (statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials) and the math behind it, from calculus through differential equations. For high school students, I can help with AP Calculus and AP Physics, and I enjoy working with professionals preparing for the FE or PE exam. I use MATLAB and Python regularly in my research and can help students apply them to real engineering problems. My approach is the same across topics: I listen first to find where the real difficulty sits, build intuition before formal methods, work through examples together, and make sure the student practices independently.
For new students, I offer a free fifteen-minute introductory conversation so we can discuss your goals and confirm I am a good fit before lessons begin. I ask for at least twenty-four hours of notice for cancellations and try to reply to messages within a few hours. Whether you are an undergraduate, graduate student, working engineer, or high school student tackling AP coursework, I would be glad to help you build the understanding and confidence to succeed. Please reach out with any questions or to schedule a first session!
