Hi there, I’m Maggie! I graduated magna cum laude from Rice University with a BA in English and Visual Arts. I have always had a passion for teaching students how to express themselves with confidence and clarity through writing.
For two years, I volunteered with Momentum Education as an essay editor and English tutor for underprivileged high school students in Houston, Texas. My experiences included editing services for college application essays as well one-on-one tutoring for students in English classes, including AP Literature. During my time, I loved helping students craft personal statements that truly represented their interests and made them stand out.
I have always believed that good writing is good thinking. In my tutoring and editing approach, I go beyond basic proofreading and ask young writers questions to encourage to them to critically think over what it is they want to express and why. Teaching students how to write well gives them a solid foundation for effective, persuasive communication that they can leverage in all majors and careers.
I’ve joined Wyzant as a tutor to further make an impact on students who want to improve their writing skills. Though most of my tutoring and editing experience has been centered on college application essays, I also greatly enjoy assisting students with all other forms of writing, including academic essays, AP and SAT literature prep, and creative writing.
I primarily work remotely, but am open to discussing in-person tutoring and editing if you are in the Houston area.
