Experienced Tutor Specializing in Middle and High School Math

I'm Maya! I am a current Mechanical Engineering major at Rice University in Houston, Texas. I'm originally from New York City, and I graduated from The Dwight School as a member of the International Baccalaureate program. I have experience tutoring students in the subjects of both English and math, and I especially prefer teaching Geometry, Algebra I, Precalculus, Trigonometry, and all forms of elementary or middle school math.

I'm very passionate about what I study, and I think that is largely because of some of the teachers I had along the way. I believe that everyone is capable of success in a class, but a lot of the time receiving lower grades can have a detrimental impact on a student's confidence - and I can change that. I find it incredibly rewarding to be able to improve the confidence of a student, especially when it comes to STEM subjects.

The two main background experiences I have in tutoring were through my high school and at home. In high school, I was a tutor through the ESL department, in which I facilitated language learning in English. At home, I have been tutoring my little sister in science and math for years, as she has dyscalculia and needs the extra support in the STEM subjects. I also have extensive experience working with people with cognitive disabilities, so I am familiar with various backgrounds and learning capabilities.
