Hi! I’m Sydney — a certified secondary science teacher and geoscientist with 7+ years of experience teaching learners from elementary through university. I specialize in helping students build confidence, understand challenging concepts, and improve their performance in Earth Science, Biology, Environmental Science, and introductory Chemistry.

I’ve taught 6th Grade Earth Science, high school Chemistry/Physics, and multiple undergraduate geology courses, and I’m experienced in both formal classrooms and informal education settings such as museums, camps, and outreach programs. My approach is patient, structured, and centered on making science feel clear, doable, and relevant.

What I offer:
• Middle school & high school tutoring: Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Biology, Environmental Science, Intro Chem
• College-level support: Intro Geology, Earth Systems, Mineralogy, Sedimentology, Earth Materials, Chemistry I, scientific writing
• STEM enrichment for grades 4–9: hands-on science, AI & Machine Learning basics, project help
• Study skills, homework support, and concept mastery

How sessions work:
I use a consistent, supportive structure—quick check-in, step-by-step instruction, guided practice, and a short mastery check. Parents may receive summaries upon request. I specialize in differentiated instruction and helping students who need extra clarity, pacing, and encouragement.

Education & background:
• New Mexico Secondary Science Teaching License
• M.Sc. in Earth & Environmental Sciences
• Research experience in geobiology, microbiology, and isotope geochemistry
• Former university Teaching Assistant for 5 courses
• Awarded “Most Outstanding First-Year Teaching Assistant” and the Caswell Silver Service Award

My goal is to help every student say, “I finally get it!” If your learner needs clearer explanations, stronger study habits, or a confidence boost in science, I’d love to help. Feel free to reach out with your goals!

Earth Science

Earth Science

My Earth Science expertise is grounded in graduate-level training in geobiology, sedimentology, and isotope geochemistry, as well as university teaching experience in courses such as Mineralogy, Earth Materials, and Earth Systems. I also taught a full year of 6th Grade Earth Science, giving me a strong understanding of how to scaffold foundational concepts for younger learners. I am skilled at explaining core geoscience topics including minerals, rocks, plate tectonics, atmospheric and ocean processes, and Earth’s dynamic systems. I help students build both conceptual understanding and analytical skills for success in Earth Science.
Environmental Science

Environmental Science

I have extensive experience teaching Environmental Science through both formal classroom instruction and hands-on, inquiry-based learning. My background includes graduate-level research in geobiology, biogeochemistry, and Earth systems processes, which allows me to explain environmental concepts with real scientific depth. I’ve taught middle school, high school, and undergraduate Earth science courses, giving me a strong understanding of how to scaffold complex ideas for learners at any level. I help students connect environmental topics to real-world issues so they can master the material with confidence.
Genetics

Genetics

My Genetics expertise comes from analyzing genomic data and studying microbial physiology as part of my graduate work in Earth and Environmental Sciences. This has given me a strong understanding of molecular biology concepts, including DNA organization, gene function, inheritance patterns, and evolutionary relationships. I’ve worked with students who need both foundational explanations and help applying genetics concepts to real problems. I focus on clear instruction and guided practice to help students master the material.
