I am a bilingual Spanish and English speaker and a dual American and Argentinian citizen. I completed Argentine school mostly by correspondence through the 9th grade. Instruction was in Spanish. I graduated from Lincoln International High School in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Instruction was in English.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, where I also received my teaching certification. I taught K-4 Spanish at Alton Elementary in South Memphis. I moved after marrying my husband who was in the US military. I taught 6-8 Spanish at St. Mary’s School in Temple, TX.
I tutored Pre K-12 Spanish in the Houston, TX suburbs. My students attended area private and public schools. I also taught a couple of homeschoolers. I enjoyed teaching young students through the TPR (Total Physical Response Method), games, toys, songs, and age appropriate books. I incorporated geography and culture with parental approval. Some of my students came to me for several years. Most of my high school students needed to improve their poor grades. We worked with their computer lessons and handouts. I used my own reference books as needed. I included study and organization skills when necessary. One student high school Spanish II student told me he learned more from me in a hourly session than he did in a year of class! I also tutored a few heritage kids. They came from bilingual homes but needed additional instruction. Some of these students were shy and embarrassed to speak Spanish. We mostly worked on conversation. I used TPR, storybooks, and games with them. I explained to all my student why learning a foreign language is incredibly beneficial in life.
I recently moved to the city of Houston. My former tutoring students are now an hour away. I miss them terribly!
