I'm Brahim! I graduated magna cum laude from Colorado College with a degree in Feminist and Gender Studies, and a minor in Race and Ethnic Studies. I also have a Masters in Teaching from the University of the Pacific, and a California teaching credential. I have 2 years of experience as a classroom teacher in both middle and high school settings, where I taught English and world history. I am passionate about working with students in the ways that work best for them, tailoring the learning environment to their unique goals and needs. I recognize that every student learns differently and has their own goals, and I am committed to making the learning experience enjoyable and useful to students. To this end, when I first work with a student I like to get a sense of what their goals are, their strengths, and areas where they'd like to improve.
In my tutoring sessions, I like to use a lesson plan which introduces the topic in an engaging way. Then, I get into working on the material or skills that are the focus of the session. My sessions always include time for students to practice the skills, and for me to give them feedback. However, I am always flexible to the students' needs--if there is a particular assignment they are struggling with or would like feedback on, I am happy to include time for that in the session.
I was a strong test taker, and received a score of 5 in AP World History, AP US History, AP English Language and Composition, and AP English Literature and Composition. If a student wants to focus on test preparation, our lesson plans will cover the material and skills required and test-taking strategies. I ask students to complete and send me practice tests outside of our sessions, which I was then grade in time for our session. That allows us to use the session to go over what went well, what could've gone better, and for me to provide feedback.
I am always responsive to my students' questions and needs. If you have questions about how I can support you, please reach out!
