I'm J.D., a professionally-trained and published historian with 8+ years of teaching and tutoring experience. Currently, I'm a Ph.D. student at Rice University and a part-time history professor at Lone Star College. I've studied at Rice University (Ph.D. 2026), Florida Atlantic University (M.A., 2020), University of Central Florida (B.A., 2018), and Seminole State College of Florida (A.A., 2016). Before that, I was educated at home by my mother in Brazil, which is where I spent my childhood before returning to the United States for further studies.

I've also worked both privately and professionally as a writing tutor for college and high school students. While I was studying for my bachelor's degree, I began helping my friends who were struggling with their papers. It made me so happy to see them succeed that I wanted to keep helping students. That's why I became a professor, and that's why I've studied at the university level for nearly a decade in order to master the craft of academic writing, which allows me to pass that skill along to others.

What makes me stand out as a tutor? The first reason is that I myself have published my own work on numerous occasions, and so I know what it takes to produce high-quality academic writing. The second reason is that I know how to explain all of the steps that it takes to write a good paper in a way that is easy for students to understand. Finally, the third reason is that I care about students and their success. I've always believed that one of the most important keys to success is the ability to communicate one's ideas well, and learning to write well is one of the best ways to accomplish that.
