Hi I’m Alexis! I graduated back in 2014 with my Chemical Engineering degree from Lamar University. I originally wanted to major in Math because I love it so much, but my Chemistry teacher convinced me to go the engineering route. Although I’m an engineer, my favorite subject in school and to this day is Math. I specifically love Algebra because it is so useful in our everyday life! To understand how to budget or even how to calculate the sales price of an item, you need to understand Algebraic principles. I have been tutoring in Math since high school. I am successful with students because I love to teach and explain concepts in different (and fun) ways to help ensure my students understand. I appreciate that everyone learns differently, so I do my best to account for that.
I have also held a corporate job for the last 10 years, where public speaking was a regular part of my life. I have also led massive trainings and done public speaking for conferences. I understand how scary public speaking can be and I also understand what it takes to do it well. I work with my students to build confidence, develop plans to manage nerves, and assist them with the best tactics to successfully deliver an effective message…publicly.
I have also held leadership positions for the last 5 years, so I know what it takes to be successful in a career from both a personal level but also from the standpoint of what I expect from a direct report. I love helping people understand how to prepare to be successful in their career, as well as how to set themselves apart once already in a career.
I love people so I’m a tutor that genuinely cares about the success of my students. I will work to make sure you not only know the information but that you feel confident about it as well.
