Hi, I'm Emily! I graduated from Georgia Tech with highest academic honors in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. I have a solid foundation in chemistry, as I took many high level chemistry classes for my degree. During my time there, I was a Teaching Assistant for a class called Computing for Engineers (CS 1371), which covers the programming language MATLAB. My responsibilities as a Teaching Assistant included:
-Teaching a weekly 1 hr mini lecture reviewing the week's objectives to ~30 students
-Providing one-on-one tutoring in an open help desk for students
-Writing and reviewing new test questions 4x/semester
-Grading tests
Being a Teaching Assistant taught me a lot about teaching and tutoring. I like to first explain the concept with a good, representative example that clearly breaks down each step and explains the "why" along the way. While students are working on solving problems, I don't just automatically give them the next step - instead, I challenge them with carefully crafted questions that help break down the problem and encourage them to think critically so the next time, they know how to approach the problem.
After college, I went on to work in industry for 7 years. I am currently taking a break from full time working and would love to use my skills to help students get on the path to succeed and excel!
