Hi, I’m Erin! I graduated magna cum laude from Rice University in 2008 with a B.A. in both Mathematics and Psychology, as well as obtaining a teaching certificate for grades 7-12. I then went on to get a M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Houston in 2014. Since graduating from Rice, I’ve been teaching at an international school that specializes in the IB Program, which emphasizes critical thinking, equipping students with robust methods, and problem-solving skills. Unlike superficial approaches that focus solely on rote memorization and/or replication of solving patterns, I believe in teaching students to develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts through exploration and investigation, enabling them to tackle complex problems with confidence and creativity.

I am experienced in tutoring Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus, as well as SAT and ACT math prep. My experience in the IB program has taught me that it is important to identify and utilize the unique learning capabilities and preferences of each student in order to maximize their learning potential, and I try to bring this to every tutoring session. My tutoring sessions generally follow one (or both) of two main formats: 1) working through assigned problems, troubleshooting along the way, 2) conducting a lesson to either reteach content that wasn’t grasped when previously taught or to introduce a new idea to “get ahead.” I am happy to tailor the tutoring session to the needs of that particular topic or unit of study.

I truly believe that building a rapport and a high level of trust in a tutor or teacher can offer a student the tools needed to soar in mathematics. I would love to work with you, so please feel free to contact me with any questions or schedule a lesson!

Incredible Tutor!

My daughter worked with Erin M. on precalculus throughout the entire school year. Erin’s patience, kindness, and ability to explain complex concepts with clarity made such a difference for her. Every session—whether once in a while or multiple times in a week—was a space where she felt encouraged, capable, and understood. What really stood out, though, was the way Erin connected with her. She brought humor, honesty and a realness that made my daughter feel comfortable and cared for. That combination of excellent teaching and genuine connection is rare. We are incredibly grateful to Erin for the hours spent dedicated to our daughter’s growth in this difficult subject.
