I am confident that my extensive teaching and writing experience make me an ideal candidate for your open position. As an African American woman who has taught largely ethnically diverse student populations, my research interests and my syllabi have shaped and have been shaped by the interests and the needs of my students. As a public-school teacher, it has been important for me to consistently attend annual professional trainings provided at various state venues including College Board AP English trainings, California State Northridge Expository Writing trainings, and technology in the classroom trainings, among others. These extensive professional development preparations have afforded me the opportunity to stay on top of the latest programs and research regarding teaching effectiveness and student success in the classroom. Over the years, texts by nationally acclaimed, NBPTS education guru Jim Burke have shaped the design of both my syllabus and my classroom instruction. Further, as often as possible, I utilize current events from written resources like the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times to foster thoughtful classroom discussions about current events like immigration and environmental issues.
