Hi, I’m Francis and if loving derivatives is wrong then I don’t want to be right. With over a decade of experience, I’m a diligent tutor who’s dedicated to helping students develop greater confidence and skill with trigonometry, algebra and calculus. As a natural math lover, I genuinely enjoy helping others improve and grow to enjoy the challenge of solving equations. My unwavering patience and commitment to tailoring my approach to each individual student's needs set me apart as a tutor. I take pride in explaining complex mathematical concepts in various ways until they resonate with each student.

I hold two engineering degrees from Texas Southern University where I graduated magna cum laude with honors (3.7 GPA). I earned a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston (3.6 GPA). My academic achievements include exemplary performance (A/A+) in critical subjects such as Calculus 1, 2, & 3, Calculus-based Physics 1 & 2, differential equations, and complex analysis. I scored 162 out of 170 in the GRE exam math section. Currently, I work with math everyday as a full time design engineer at a major engineering firm.
Tutoring Experience:
I have 10+ years of tutoring experience. For six years, I assisted fellow college students in mastering Calculus 1, 2 & 3 at our on-campus tutoring center. I honed my teaching skills, employing a Socratic method that encourages students to grasp concepts in their unique way. I was a teaching assistant for the SASS program, helping incoming freshmen meet their academic requirements.
In graduate school, I joined the AVID program. For 2+ years, I tutored high school students (age: 14- 18) in Algebra, Geometry, physics, and chemistry. For the past two years, I've provided one-on-one online tutoring to students ranging from middle school to college. This experience has broadened my ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.

Explanatory and patient

Great communication and patient explanation of concepts. Took time to confirm that the steps made sense and asked to repeat for confirmation. Thank you very much for the help!

Knowledgeable and patient

Francis has been helping my 11th grade daughter with Pre-Cal honors for the past few weeks. He is knowledgeable and able to teach in a way that opened up honors calculus understanding. He is a very natural educator and patient with our daughter. She will continue to work with Francis during midterms. I would not hesitate in using Francis in other topics as well. He is a lucky find on Wyzant.

Patient and Thorough

Helped my senior with her AP Calc final. Made sure to ask questions about her understanding. He was nice and accommodating to our schedule for a last minute session request.

Francis is absolutely amazing!!!

Francis is extremely patient and knowledgeable. My student was able to learn so much in a 2 hour session. He went over a review with her and explained in detail what she was doing incorrectly. She mentioned feeling comfortable and not judged for not understanding. Francis didn't move forward until she was able to comprehend the information. It's extremely important for the students to feel heard during the tutoring session and that was well accomplished. We have decided to continue using Mr. Francis, he has 5 stars for a reason.

extremely patient and helpful

I have struggled to find the a tutor who is willing to go the extra mile and make sure I fully understand the topic. He is extremely patient and is willing to show different ways of learning a concept if the first way doesn’t click right. Best tutor I have had so far!
