I have a BS degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. My experience with teaching includes 6th grade English, Chapter 1 Math, and Elementary Computer, grades K-6; as well as Preschool ages 3-5. During the 4 years of teaching, I used the holistic approach which addresses the academic, emotional, social and ethical needs of the students. This technique included using visual (learn through seeing), auditory (learn through hearing), tactile (learn through touch), and kinesthetic (learn through doing and moving) types of learning. I believe that individuals learn most and are successful when all senses are used in learning.
After teaching the four years, I decided to raise my children and homeschool. During these years, I tutored sporadically, helping students to learn specific skills using the above techniques to overcome the learning challenges. I decided to not renew my teacher's certificate and earned a Master of Arts degree in Executive Leadership to use in my full-time job in behavioral health. One of the areas of study in this degree is interpersonal skills which teaches how to interact and communicate with all personalities. Learning how to understand human traits and behaviors helps a teacher or tutor teach conflict resolution, teamwork, and motivation in a classroom setting. These are just as important as learning and understanding the subjects.
