Hello, my name is Mary P. I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2014 with a degree in genetics. I am certified to teach every high school level math and science course in the state of Texas. This includes all math subjects up to calculus 1 as well as biology, physics, chemistry and more. After my second year teaching I partook in professional development courses that allowed me to work with gifted and talented students as well.
My experience includes six years as a classroom teacher in a Texas high school - the main courses being algebra 1, geometry, biology, and AP biology. I taught the honors courses in both geometry and biology as well as a remedial class called strategic math wherein I helped students who struggled in their algebra coursework. I also assisted in after-school tutoring in a larger variety of subjects such as SAT/ACT mostly centered on the upper-level math content as well as AP biology exam prep.
My person tutoring philosophy is to meet students where they are as so as to build confidence and the scaffold lessons so that the student is able to grow with each session. I also find it is important to help students learn how to study on their own as many students struggle with knowing how to learn the various subjects. Studying for math looks different from studying science and it is important to work with the student to find ways that work for them. My goal is always to help the student and I look forward to working with you.
