I have more than 20 years of experience in public education, working with students from elementary through high school as a teacher, instructional specialist, assistant principal, and principal. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History from Tarleton State University and Texas educator certifications. Most recently, my instructional work focused heavily on middle school mathematics, including supporting students and teachers in grades 6–8.
My approach starts with figuring out where a student’s understanding breaks down rather than simply repeating the same explanation - slower and louder is NOT helpful. In math, I help students understand the reasoning behind a process, make connections between concepts, and develop strategies they can use independently. I have extensive experience analyzing student work and assessment data to identify misconceptions and determine the specific skill or concept that needs attention. I also believe students learn better when they are comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and saying, “I don’t understand this YET.”
I also tutor social studies, including U.S. History, Government, and related subjects. My undergraduate studies concentrated in Political Science and History, and these remain subjects I genuinely enjoy. Whether we are working through an algebra problem, preparing for an assessment, or trying to make sense of a historical event, my goal is the same: help the student understand what they are learning—not simply get through tonight’s assignment.
