My name is Matt. I am able to tutor in many subjects, and I taught math, science, and English overseas. I was a teacher in the Peace Corps for 2 years, where I taught underprivileged students. Subjects taught there included biology, chemistry, physics, physical science, high school English, algebra, geometry, trig, and a slew of other topics. I have spent about 10 years tutoring middle and high school age students, mostly in math and science areas, including algebra, prealgebra, arithmetic, and middle school science; more recently, my experience has shifted towards high school and college level math and science, from algebra 1 through calculus and middle school science through advanced college science courses. I am also able to tutor in basic history and Spanish. I can go at your own pace, and I am flexible with my schedule. I tailor my tutoring approach to the needs of the student(s). I offer alternative approaches to topics that help students understand the material and do more than just repeat it back to the teachers.

I tutored math for many years. I also majored in chemical engineering as well as chemistry in college, where I took 3 years of calculus as well as differential equations. I also took many chemistry, biology, physics, and other science related courses. I graduated early, graduating with the double degree (meaning two separate Bachelor's degrees) in 3.5 years. I started taking college classes when I was 16. I currently manage a chemical research lab and am a professional research scientist, so I use many of the topics that I can tutor on a daily basis. I have been a professional scientist for about 11 years now. Reach out to me! I'm a wonderful person and tutor.

Excellent Tutor!

Matt helped my daughter prep for the AP Statistics exam. After working with him for a few sessions, she feels very ready for the exam. She felt more confident even after just the first session. He was thorough in his explanations and helped her to see new ways to solve problems. We appreciate his flexibility and attention to detail. Would highly recommend him!

Knowledgeable and patient

Matt has been able to explain Chemistry in a way my son is able to relate. Last week my son was excited because he answered a question in class and got it right and after only his first lesson with Matt. Anxious to watch my son continue to improve and rebuild his confidence!

Best investment!

Matt was an absolute lifesaver for my son who had to complete a required college math class during a very short and condensed "mini-mester" He jumped right in and was able to identify where Hudson was not comprehending what he needed to move forward in the class. Matt's background in Math and Science is impressively extensive, yet he was able to get on Hudson's level and explain steps as they worked through problems together before he would work independently. As his mother, I admit to eavesdropping a bit and was so relieved to hear the "a-ha! moments" each session. He also helped motivate Hudson to complete his assignments while the explanations were fresh on his mind, rather than waiting to submit assignments at end of course when they were due.We will definitely reach out to Matt again should Hudson need help with any of his college coursework this Spring.
