I am a retired public high school teacher who taught language arts, business classes, sociology, and speech in Texas for 24 years. I currently teach ESL classes at the community college and work with students who are interested in writing, pronunciation, and grammar. I also help students work toward their GED. I have a B.A. in English, a B.S. in business, a M.A. in management and supervision, and my Ph.D. in Educational Human Resource Management with a concentration in adult education. I have tons of patience and am flexible for tutoring times. My goal is to help anyone who asks because I feel that education is the key to a better tomorrow. My education has made all the difference for me. I hope that it will be able to help you. I am willing to drive to your residence, but I would like a 2-hour session block to have enough time to really focus on the subject matter. Thanks!

Helped with math homework and strategies for learning math and the concepts on making it fun to learn. Pat was a great help thank you
Patricia was an outstanding tutor for my two grandchildren. Very understanding and patient with the girls. Especially the one who was attending special ed. The girls loved her and wished she would be available for this area, Virginia. We had a great relationship as far as time changed, i.e., school, or medical appointments, etc. If anyone who lives in the Harker Heights, Texas, area, and need tutoring for their children, I highly recommend Patricia, to be contacted.
I feel that she has done a great job with my son. He is very stubborn sometimes, but she was very patient and took her time him with. I feel like the session went really well for the most part. I will work with him at home on a daily basis and see if I can't get him to relax and read a little more.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
To make it in the business world, it's important to know what the field is all about. What better way than taking business courses? There may be times, though, when you need help is understanding the principles of management or marketing, how to write effective business letters and memos, or how ethics plays into the makeup of today's world. This is where you need me. I have a B.S. degree in General Business and a M.A. degree in Management and Supervision with a concentration in Personnel Management. I taught introduction to business and records management at a public high school, plus I taught management classes on a part-time basis for a community college. I also taught at a 4-year university in their business department also on a part-time basis while I was raising my children. I am a dedicated reader and am a self-directed learner, so if I don't have an answer off the top of my head, I will find it in a reasonable amount of time.
I am sincerely interested in helping you get through your business courses, and I am willing to meet with you as often as needed to support your learning and understanding of the various business topics. I have edited many papers, so I can be of help in checking your writing to ensure that you have covered the topics and have complied with the dictates of standard English grammar.
If you can utilize my skills, I am here to help you. Contact me. Together we can compile a plan of action to help you reach success.
As a life-long educator, I can interact with students at all levels. I especially like the elementary students because they have the energy and enthusiasm to learn, plus they are not usually intimidated by their mistakes and continue on as long as there is a friendly hand to guide them. I am especially interested in study skills, reading, grammar, and writing, and I welcome the opportunity to work with these students in a variety of other content areas. Although I have not "formally" taught elementary school, I did institute a program where my high school sociology students mentored at-risk elementary students and developed many strong bonds that led to increased grades. That experience gave me valuable insight into the minds of elementary students. Not only can I serve as a content area guide, but I can be their best cheerleader as they move toward mastering challenges enroute to success. I also value parental involvement and encourage as much contact before, during, and after the tutoring sessions. I am also aware of the TAKS tests and understand their importance. Because your child is your most precious gift, I would welcome the opportunity to work with him or her and help cultivate a love of learning and provide a climate of support and encouragement.
If you are an ESL student, I recognize that you face many challenges trying to learn the English language. You are fortunate, though, that I have the patience, experience, dedication, and empathy needed to help you learn or sharpen your skills in reading, writing, listening, or speaking in English. I studied a foreign language when in high school and college, so I understand the demands of learning a second or third language. Also, I have lived abroad for a number of years, so I am familiar with how important language is and how valuable it can be to those who want to study, work, or live in another country. Acculturation is not an easy task due to the differences inherent in the mores, norms, attitudes, and dictates of a new culture. Because I currently work with ESL students at the community college and high school levels, I know I can assist you in reaching your language goals. My B.A. degree is in English, and my B.S. degree is in business. My M.A. degree is in management and supervision, so I am knowledgeable about writing throughout several fields and can provide continued support for you to become more proficient in the English language. I want to you know that I will be your cheerleader as I encourage you to success no matter how long it may take for you to reach your goals. I particularly understand grammar and writing, so if these are areas you need help with, do contact me. Let's set up a time to discuss your thoughts and pair them with my abilities. Together I feel we can make a difference on your road to success in the English language.
I taught sociology for a number of years in my school district at the high school level. I also worked with a book company and wrote supplemental workbooks/supplemental materials for their sociology book -- "Sociology and You" through the National Textbook Company. I have Texas state certification in sociology and minored plus in college. I have implemented sociology programs which have taken students out of the classroom into the community on a volunteer basis. Sociology is an interesting subject that I enjoy working with, so I welcome the opportunity to tutor.
From my point of view, study skills are equally as important as the content because one supplements the other. This suggests that having a plan before and during study is needed because content can be overwhelming and intimidating at times. Whether it's as simple as using a calendar to record assignments, making a list of due dates to insert on the front page of a notebook, or taping an assignment sheet to the refrigerator, plans for studying are important to retain and retrieve information in a timely manner. In addition, there are many techniques available to help make studying more organized and beneficial. This list is not inclusive; it provides suggestions but does not suggest that all should be followed. First, focus is needed. Study in a prescribed place and set time goals. Trying to cram too much information into too short of a time will negate the purpose of using study skills. Plan frequent breaks and have snacks or drinks available to keep the pangs of hunger or thirst at bay. Schedule in rest breaks to keep the brain energized. Paraphrase the content, make notations on worksheets or on paper, try to complete the most difficult assignments first when the brain is energized, and ask for help, if needed. In addition to parents, friends, and siblings, many schools have homework hotlines. This service can be a valuable resource! Also, plan to study over a definite period of time and not the night before. Cramming content into a brain does not ensure that it can be retrieved in a timely manner. Last but certainly not least, repeat or explain the content you are studying to a parent, friend, or sibling. If you can explain the information to them, then you have learned the material. Study skills may seem tedious at first, but with time and use they should become easier. That's where I would come in to your life -- to help you establish a study skill plan and continually check to make sure you are following the plan and meeting your goals. After all, studying doesn't have to be painful. Study skills help make you focus. Once the content is sorted and filed away for future use, then it will be time to do something fun. After all, you will have deserved a little break after all the studying you accomplished.
