Act One: A Little About Me
Writing is pretty much all I know. Raised on cinema in small-town Texas, I received an MFA in screenwriting from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2014, I won the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Science’s Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting and launched a career as a working writer in Hollywood. I’ve been fortunate to write for studios such as Disney+, 20th Century Fox, CBS Films, Lionsgate and worked in the TV writer’s room for INSIDE JOB on Netflix. You may have heard me (along with my frequent co-writer) on “The Screenwriting Life” podcast or seen me on panels at the Austin Film Festival. I’ve also written several novels and can discuss that process as well.
Act Two: A Little About You
I’m looking for students of all ages and experience. If you’re curious about the basics of screenwriting, such as structure, character, and believable dialogue, then I’m your guy. If you’re looking for a more advanced discussion, we can do that too, diving deeper into the specifics of your own project to help you achieve your writing goals. Or perhaps you’ve completed your dream script and are curious about how to get it into the hands of the decision makers looking for the next big hit. That’s not easy to do, but I can help you strategize your best plan forward.
Act Three: How We’d Work Together
I hope my students will come away from our sessions with the skills and confidence to tackle any issues in their writing, whether it’s a murky first draft or a near-polished masterpiece that just needs that one final polish. I can help you write the screenplay that’s burning away inside of you. And I know there is one because, otherwise, you wouldn’t have read this far. You have the desire to create, to connect, to stir emotions with words on a page. Truly, there aren’t many other feelings like it.
