I earned a Master’s Degree in 1999 from Sam Houston State University in Education with an emphasis in Literacy and earned my Educational Diagnostician certification through Educational Service Center, Region 10 in Richardson, in May 2022. I also hold Texas Teacher Certification in Secondary English, Reading, ESL, and Special Education. Of my 25 years teaching English/Language Arts to diverse student populations, I enjoyed at least 16 years in the Special Education classroom. I completed my Educational Diagnostician Internship in 2022 and worked as an Educational Diagnostician for Athens ISD in 2022-2023. I also served as Principal for a small private school associated with my church, seeing the new school through the accreditation process, which was completed in May.
Throughout my teaching career as well as my service work in the community, my calling has been to empower diverse learners toward success. I have taught student and adult populations including those with varying levels of literacy; second-language learners; students with behavioral, learning, and intellectual disabilities; international students; adults at community colleges; as well as adults at an online university. This background has provided me with a comprehensive collection of skills in flexibility and patience, as well as in assessment, instructional methods/ strategies, and communication, all of which assist me as I present and explain complex concepts to both children and adults.
