Simplex method and interpretation
Duality and sensitivity analysis
Constraint modeling and decision variables
Application-based optimization problems

Instructional Approach

Sessions focus on:

• Translating theory into structured solution processes
• Identifying assumptions and modeling constraints
• Developing systematic problem-solving workflows
• Reinforcing conceptual understanding alongside computation
• Working through representative exam and assignment problems

The goal is to help students understand both the methodology and the underlying principles so they can apply techniques independently.

Student Fit: I work best with students who need:

• Clarification of advanced coursework concepts
• Support in applying theory to complex problem sets
• Review and preparation for exams in technical subjects
• Guidance in structuring multi-step quantitative solutions

Typical sessions include:

• Review of problem statements and objectives
• Stepwise solution development
• Discussion of modeling logic and assumptions
• Summary of key takeaways and solution strategies

Sessions are designed to improve both conceptual clarity and systematic problem-solving efficiency.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Successfully helped several students through Algebra 2, from 8th graders to adults.
Business

Business

I have an MBA from Rutgers (class of 2009, magna cum laude). I've worked as a project manager on jobs up to $25M / year off and on for the past 15 years. I'm active in INFORMS, the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences and on the organizing committee for their yearly Analytics (i.e. Business Intelligence, i.e. BI) Conference and co-chair of the poster session there.
Financial Accounting

Financial Accounting

I have an MBA from Rutgers where I took two accounting courses. I got A's in both courses. I informally tutored other students in cost accounting and activity based accounting principles, helping them improve their understanding and their grades.
GMAT

GMAT

When I took the GMAT in 2005, I scored 750 out of 800. I also scored a 6/6 on the analytical writing portion. I prepared for the exam by doing practice exams and can easily teach that method to anyone.
Managerial Accounting

Managerial Accounting

I have an MBA from Rutgers where I took two accounting courses. I got A's in both courses. I informally tutored other students in cost accounting and activity based accounting principles, helping them improve their understanding and their grades.
Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

I graduated from Stanford University in 1998 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. During my coursework I often informally tutored classmates in thermodynamics, rigid body dynamics, fluid dynamics, and compressible and incompressible flow. I have 7 years of direct mechanical engineering experience in thermodynamics, power plant design, and heat transfer analysis.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

Successfully tutored several students in doing optimization and linear programming problems in Excel. I use Excel in my day job as an engineer so I am familiar with it.
SAT Math

SAT Math

1) My own score (1991) was 760 out of 800. 2) SAT Math, which is basic algebra and geometry through trigonometry, fits right in with my work as a mechanical engineer. 3) The SAT with its emphasis on recognition of problem types fits well with my tutoring philosophy of "Practice makes routine, perfect practice makes perfect." I work with students to help them get used to the test format and the day itself, and to patch gaps in their knowledge so that as they practice, they are practicing properly.

Alan did a great job!

Alan did a great job tutoring our son in Algebra 2. He had a good understanding of the material our son was studying in class and was able to help him understand the small adjustments that were needed. He even provided a worksheet to help with the material. We would book Alan again!

Great Job! Thanks for the orientation in the assignment! The collaboration for the problems to solve. Alan is is a good Professor since motivates the student and helps the student read and understand the problem.

great teacher, very patient

Helped to break things down and is very knowledgeable! Shows different approaches on how to solve problems, and is patient with you to help you understand!

Responsive and Knowledgeable

I am actually the parent of the person being tutored. I loved the follow-up Alan sent sharing what was worked on. (Eventhough I have no idea what he is talking about :) )

Patient tutor

He is a patient tutor and he will repeat it as many times as it takes to understand. He always does a good job of explaining. Background noise was a little distracting though.

Super knowledgeable, easy to follow and learn

Alan sorted an inordinate amount of data and then taught me how to create a model to help analyze the data. He is a whiz at spreadsheets and was very coherent as he explained the material. Very appreciative of his teaching!

Amazing

This dude might be the smartest dude I’ve ever met. Very very knowledgeable wasn’t sure if he was gunna be able to do my managerial accounting because a lot of it is difficult excel problems. Broke down the excel problems very easily. I was doing the calculation in a calculator and he was doing the problems by hand or in his head and he was solving the math perfectly and better than I could do in the calculator. Don’t really want to give a Good review because I don’t want others to know about the talent this man has but I got too this man holds it down in the classroom. I will definitely book again this guy should be a professor and a top rated professor at a Ivy League school. After working with him I was very inspired to do better in my coursework and learn more. Hopefully his rates don’t go up after this review but this guys a hidden gem. Book him for any subject I’m sure he won’t let you down.
