I am Donna. I graduated from the University of Ottawa, Canada with a degree in nursing. My professors were great role models, and I decided that I wanted to be a nursing professor during those formative years. I did a master’s degree in critical care and a post-masters for the Family Nurse Practitioner certification. My terminal degree is a PhD in nursing. Over the years of teaching, I realize that learners are motivated and have unique roles in their own learning. Essentially, the learner needs the essential information in each lesson plan with the opportunity for evaluation at the end of the lesson. I believe that the learning style of the learner must be assessed for me to optimize the lesson plan for successful outcomes.
I have over 45 years of varied experiences of which 25 years is in academia. For the last 14 years I have taught graduate nursing courses online with a focus on courses that include research, evidence-based practice and theories in nursing. In this type of teaching, I mastered the art of online delivery of information. I am keenly aware of personalizing instructions including different resources, pacing the instruction to meet learner's needs, use of technology, and of course building a screen rapport. Finally, I have taught thousands of students over the years in which a large percentage were first time graduate students. I am aware of the transitional issues that may arise and can facilitate students' needs. Learning does not occur in isolation, it involves body, mind and spirit.
If you are a graduate nursing student that needs coaching in interpretation of assignments, how to do research for papers, writing, developing projects, etc. or navigating as a new graduate nursing student, I would be happy to coach you for success. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any queries that you may have.
