I believe learning can and should be fun and is a lifelong process. We can all enhance our lives by continuing to seek knowledge. I love to meet people, and will work to determine the learning style that works best for you.

I have experience in teaching pre-K through adult level classes. My passion is continuing to enhance my Japanese skills. I particularly enjoy teaching love of all things Japanese to young children.

I love languages, and to learn about other cultures, and I believe that immersion in second language and cultural awareness should begin in elementary school. I hope you will allow me to present the Japanese language to your child in a fun, engaging way.

I was lucky enough to be in the inaugural class. Upon graduation from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, I worked in Nagaoka, Japan for three years as a participant in the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program. I achieved Level 3 Proficiency on the Japanese Proficiency Language Test, JPLT certification exam, and am continuing my own study to pass the next level. My love for the Japanese language and its people has never waned. I truly enjoy everything about Japan and am eager to assist with your learning goals.

I have been an avid swimmer my entire life. I was a member of 2 teams in high school, and earned the right to represent my state as a member of 2 national teams. I especially enjoy teaching beginners and assisting them in alleviating their fear of the water. I believe everyone should learn to swim.

First impression

I invited Kem to my home to be introduced to my 8 year old daughter. My daughter is dyslexic and also has comprehension and written expression disabilities. In one hour Kem was able to build a report and assist my daughter with her homework in a meaningful fashion. We also discussed different life skills and reading material that could be brought into future tutoring sessions. Kem will begin tutoring my daughter twice a week and I look forward to seeing forward progress in her academic abilities. Kem was personable, open-minded, listened to my concerns, and was genuine in building a warm relationship with my daughter.

I like that she listens to you regarding your child

After losing my initial tutor, it was important to find someone that my grandson could work well with. We asked him after the first interview, "So what do you think of Ms. Kem?" He said, "Well,(pause), she's very smart and I like her!" with a large smile. That's all I needed to hear. When my daughter spoke with Ms. Kem, she received the same warm feeling about her. She's very comfortable to speak with and easily adapts when you need her to. It's been just a few sessions so it's hard to tell at this time anything further, but my grandson is happy with his tutor and because he likes her, he's learning again and that makes me his grandma happy.
