ADHD

ADHD

I graduated from Western Governor's University with a dual degree in Special Education and Elementary Education in June of 2014. I am certified in the state of Utah and Arizona in cross-categorical disabilities that include learning disabilities, other health impairments (such as ADHD) as well as other disabilities. I have worked with students with ADHD in many settings, in and out of school. I enjoy helping students with ADHD use a variety of techniques such as color-coding, blocking, and chunking, to master academic material. I also enjoy helping students with ADHD bring some sense of order to their cluttered backpacks!
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I graduated from Western Governor's University with a dual degree in Special Education and Elementary Education in June of 2014. I am certified in the state of Utah and Arizona in cross-categorical disabilities that include learning disabilities, and autism. I have experience working with students with Autism and enjoy helping them manage potential academic challenges by minimizing transitions and breaking difficult material into bite-sized chunks. I have a great deal of respect for both children with Autism and the families who love them.

I have extensive experience working with and explaining the shifts that have taken place with the new Common Core standards. Let me de-mystify math homework for you!
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been honored to spend the majority of the past 20 years working with elementary aged students in a variety of roles. I have been everything from a classroom teacher to a camp counselor! One of my greatest joys in life is helping students who have experienced past failures gain the courage and confidence to try again. I am certified in Utah and Arizona in both Elementary Education and Special Education.
Handwriting

Handwriting

I have been an elementary teacher for many years and have taught handwriting in the 3rd and 4th grades. Recently, I completed a a Zaner-Bloser handwriting class in which I had to submit multiple handwriting samples of my own! At the end of this 8 week program, I was given a certificate of completion for this class, indicating my ability to teach handwriting to students.
Literature

Literature

Literature is one of my favorite subjects! In my years as a teacher, I have enjoyed teaching Literature to a wide range of students: from high-quality short stories in the elementary grades, to novels at the high school level. I enjoy helping students identify the universal themes found in Literature in today's modern society.
Phonics

Phonics

As an elementary teacher, I have been required to submit and teach multiple lesson plans to demonstrate my understanding of both phonics and phonemic awareness. Additionally, as a seasoned teacher, I have a deep understanding of the building blocks of language. I enjoy helping both younger and older students solve the reading code!
