I have a PhD in mathematics and a BS in engineering. I have over 10 years of classroom experience, I taught statistics and calculus at University of Maryland before having my kids. Now, I teach at at local colleges. I have been doing paid and unpaid tutoring for 25 years now. My son became a doctor in the army, he also has a degree in Biochemical engineering. My daughter graduated from UC Berkeley Energy Engineering. I always volunteered at my children's schools. Now that my children do not need me as much as before; I try to help other children and young adults more.
I am quite knowledgeable because of my great education. However, my real value stems from my natural patience. My students all say that I put them at ease and that makes them feel free to learn. I am also able to explain the same thing in many different ways, or find different tools to help them learn and retain the material.
I am the first child in my large extended family to graduate from middle school, and I was able to go all the way to get a college degree and then a PhD. After I did, almost all of my siblings and cousins graduated from college and I was always there to help them--until I had to move to US to get my doctorate. However, to this day, they say that I not only helped them to learn, I inspired them.
After school play dates at our house always started with them doing their homework after a nutritious snack. This always surprised the playmates' parents, they could not believe that the homework was finished or at least halfway done when they came to pick up their children. I helped them to learn the material by turning it into some kind of game and then watched them do their homework. When one of them made a mistake I helped them to figure out their mistake and then correct it by themselves. I love teaching and I hope to be with the kids for many many years. Hediye is truly an incredible tutor and teacher. I worked with her as I studied for the Math Praxis II (code 0061) exam.
First, she is very patient and supportive. As I had not studied much of this material in depth for some time (years!), I felt really out of the loop with much of the material. So I greatly appreciated how Hediye was so patient with me.
Second, Hediye seemed to have a good sense of what I would need to focus on in order to pass. Clearly knowing all material through and through is ideal, but re-gaining that knowledge in 4 weeks time is near impossible. So I found it super helpful that Hediye identified the most essential elements and formulas for me for each content area covered on the test. I really appreciated how she also explained both simple and high-level content areas. This was perfect for my preparation for the test.
Third, Hediye is incredibly focused. I appreciated how she was great on an interpersonal level (warm, friendly) but also got right down to business. Every session that we had was highly focused. And we always got through so much material!
When I worked with Hediye, I went in to each session with specific questions, and some ideas for what content I wanted to review with her. This really worked for me. She was happy to answer questions (and always did so in a very accessible way) and then we worked on Math problems together.
As an educator, I think that the best teachers are those who the student wants to work hard for. I respect Hediye, so I worked really hard and did not want to disappoint! Like I said, she is a truly amazing tutor and teacher.
I'm currently working with Hediye right now, and she is amazing! she's explaining everything to me, and my confidence builds more and more each lesson. I've never been good at math, it has always been a struggle, but she simplifies everything for me. I have a tendency of getting lost in my own head when doing math and i never feel confident, so this is a huge deal for my confidence to slowly build. She is great! so helpful and i look forward to continuing working with her.
I was very happy with the quality of help I received. She is extremely good about responding back to any messages and really works with you on schedule and availability. I just started this last week and I look forward to my next session since my course is accelerated!
Hediye is very patient and clear with her explanations on math fundamentals. I came to her confused about what to study for the GMAT because my last tutor was not clear and she has put me on the right path. She knows the material very well and provides efficient strategies that can be used to save you time while taking the test. I feel much more confident in my math skills and feel that I am prepared to take the GMAT.
Hediye is working with my son who is a Junior in high school. He was struggling with pre-calc but after 1 session with Hediye his next test grade was a B! He said that she explains things very clearly and does not just tell him how to do it, but explains it so he is able to understand and then do problems on his own. She also tries very hard to accommodate his busy schedule and has been flexible with dates.
Hediye was very helpful preparing my son for his geometry test and helping him with homework. Thanks Hediye !
I really needed help with my Statistics and Hediye solved that problem. Not only is she a great tutor with an amazing knowledge of Statistics and math but she is a fun and enjoyable person to be around. She taught me great tricks and simple solutions to big problems I had while keeping me focused and thoroughly explaining everything problem to me step by step. She creates a great learning atmosphere and I would highly recommend her to anyone who needs help with math.
Hediye is an awesome tutor! She is punctual, professional and an incredible person. My daughter absolutely enjoyed her math lesson with her.
We had a great experience with her for my 10th grade daughter. She is patient with very good knowledge. She is also flexible for her schedule. We would definitely schedule next meet with her soon.
Hediye was very responsive when initially contacted. She came to our home, was soft spoken, and patient. My son had a C- on his progress report going into his first semester final of high school AP Statistics. He did an Exam Cram course (2 hours) and then did 1.5 hrs of tutoring with Hediye. He got an 81 on the final. We are very pleased.
Patient, understanding, and willing to help the student until they get the material FULLY. She operates by the student's or parent's standards so she covers all the academic wants and needs no matter how long it takes. Very reasonable and an excellent tutor overall.
Very clear and patient, flexible with meeting times, she has been very helpful with a large amount of material in a short span of time.
Good command of subject matter.
My adult daughter has to get through the basic algebra requirements at DVC to move onto her dream of attending a 4 year college. Math anxiety plus was and is her nemesis. Hedlye's patience, clear explanation, and willingness to be flexible with her schedule made her a great fit for my daughter. We just got her grade and she passed college Algebra. One more class in statistics. I know with Hedlye tutoring her, she'll take that on and succeed as well.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
