I have a PhD in mathematics and a BS in engineering. I have over 10 years of classroom experience, I taught statistics and calculus at University of Maryland before having my kids. Now, I teach at at local colleges. I have been doing paid and unpaid tutoring for 25 years now. My son became a doctor in the army, he also has a degree in Biochemical engineering. My daughter graduated from UC Berkeley Energy Engineering. I always volunteered at my children's schools. Now that my children do not need me as much as before; I try to help other children and young adults more.
I am quite knowledgeable because of my great education. However, my real value stems from my natural patience. My students all say that I put them at ease and that makes them feel free to learn. I am also able to explain the same thing in many different ways, or find different tools to help them learn and retain the material.
I am the first child in my large extended family to graduate from middle school, and I was able to go all the way to get a college degree and then a PhD. After I did, almost all of my siblings and cousins graduated from college and I was always there to help them--until I had to move to US to get my doctorate. However, to this day, they say that I not only helped them to learn, I inspired them.
After school play dates at our house always started with them doing their homework after a nutritious snack. This always surprised the playmates' parents, they could not believe that the homework was finished or at least halfway done when they came to pick up their children. I helped them to learn the material by turning it into some kind of game and then watched them do their homework. When one of them made a mistake I helped them to figure out their mistake and then correct it by themselves. I love teaching and I hope to be with the kids for many many years.

Excellent tutor: Very thorough, patient
Hediye is truly an incredible tutor and teacher. I worked with her as I studied for the Math Praxis II (code 0061) exam. First, she is very patient and supportive. As I had not studied much of this material in depth for some time (years!), I felt really out of the loop with much of the material. So I greatly appreciated how Hediye was so patient with me. Second, Hediye seemed to have a good sense of what I would need to focus on in order to pass. Clearly knowing all material through and through is ideal, but re-gaining that knowledge in 4 weeks time is near impossible. So I found it super helpful that Hediye identified the most essential elements and formulas for me for each content area covered on the test. I really appreciated how she also explained both simple and high-level content areas. This was perfect for my preparation for the test. Third, Hediye is incredibly focused. I appreciated how she was great on an interpersonal level (warm, friendly) but also got right down to business. Every session that we had was highly focused. And we always got through so much material! When I worked with Hediye, I went in to each session with specific questions, and some ideas for what content I wanted to review with her. This really worked for me. She was happy to answer questions (and always did so in a very accessible way) and then we worked on Math problems together. As an educator, I think that the best teachers are those who the student wants to work hard for. I respect Hediye, so I worked really hard and did not want to disappoint! Like I said, she is a truly amazing tutor and teacher.Stephanie, 11 lessons with Hediye

She helped me out with statistics. Explained everything to me and made sure I understood the material. I went from not understanding the material at all to being able to solve problems with ease. Overall she is a great tutor and I highly recommend.Josh, 19 lessons with Hediye

The best tutor I've ever had
Hediye is seriously the best tutor I have ever had. She responds very quickly, and is very flexible in accommodating a student's schedule and needs. As a humanities major, math does not come naturally to me, and I was struggling with college-level statistics. The way Hediye explained the concepts to me was so simple and easy to comprehend that I ended with an A in the class, and this is truly all thanks to her expertise and quick tips and tricks. She worked hard in understanding the nuances of my professor and our textbook and was very quick to adapt to the types of questions in my class. For the few questions we did not understand right away, she went out of her way to think about the problems on her own time and returned the next session with a new way to approach it, which demonstrates that Hediye truly cares about her students and the material and that she is not simply concerned with clocking in and out. Not only is she extremely knowledgeable, Hediye is very patient. I've often dealt with tutors in the past who have made me feel silly or stupid for not knowing how to tackle a problem or what formula to use, and this has often turned me "off" from the tutor and even the subject. This was never the case with Hediye. She has a very caring and nurturing nature, but do not mistake this for extreme softness -- she knows her stuff, and while she does take the time out to get to know a little bit about you and your learning style, it was never in lieu of serious academic time. Truly the best tutor I've ever had, and I highly recommend her without reservation. I will miss our sessions!Amisha, 7 lessons with Hediye

Hediye showed me how to use excel for graphing, how to read graphs using z-score, and so much more in reference to the central tendency. I am greatful for her assistance for I had gotten a B+.Donyelle, 4 lessons with Hediye
She is very patient and always gave me extra minutes for our lessons. I really appreciate for that. Hediye not only helped me by showing how to solve the problems but also taught me how to solve problems quickly. Thank you for tutoring...Nilgun, 20 lessons with Hediye
I liked her style, went over questions and didn’t waste time. But she cut the lesson short! Know your timing and give yourself some leeway as a tutor!Brad, 5 lessons with HediyeTutor responded:
I am sorry that you felt that way, however, the scheduled lesson was 60 minutes, and I had to leave after 67 minutes as you can see from the recorded video-I certainly did not cut it short. I always try to give leeway, it is harder to do during finals week-which this week is.
