I have more than 24 years of experience in K–12 education, including experience as a classroom teacher, tutor, assistant principal, principal, and as a school district leader. I hold both a Masters Degree in Special Education and an Educational Doctorate Degree in addition to multiple teaching and administrative certifications in both Texas and California and have extensive experience supporting students in general education, special education, and intervention settings.
I taught middle school from 2002–2012 and also worked as an elementary, middle school, and high school tutor from 2005–2015 in both classroom and one-on-one settings. Throughout my career, I have specialized in supporting students with learning differences, including dyslexia, ADHD, autism, executive functioning challenges, and specific learning disabilities. One of my longest tutoring relationships involved supporting a student with dyslexia for seven years through middle school, high school, and junior college, helping the student strengthen reading comprehension, writing skills, organization, confidence, and independent learning strategies.
My teaching and tutoring approach focuses on building strong relationships, identifying individual learning styles, and personalizing instruction to help students feel successful and confident. I use scaffolded instruction, explicit teaching strategies, executive functioning supports, study skills coaching, and multisensory learning approaches when appropriate. I also help students improve organization, time management, writing, reading comprehension, and academic confidence.
Because I have worked in virtually every campus-level educational role, I understand how to support a wide variety of learners and academic needs. I have extensive experience collaborating with families, supporting struggling learners, and helping students develop the skills necessary to succeed both academically and personally.
