I graduated from Texas Christian University in May 2025 with a Bachelor's in Journalism, a minor in Sociology, and a Master's in Business Analytics (3.55 GPA). The combination is unusual on purpose. I spent four years learning how to find a story in messy information and explain it to readers who didn't share my background, then two more years doing the same thing with data, statistics, and predictive models. Along the way I placed in the top ten at the University of Iowa Tippie Business Analytics Case Competition and completed a graduate internship where I helped build data infrastructure and presented findings to executives and non-technical stakeholders.
I currently substitute teach in Fort Worth, covering classrooms from elementary math up through high school English and AP-level coursework. The work has reinforced something I didn't fully appreciate before: most students don't struggle with content, they struggle with how it's delivered. A confused student is almost never a slow student. They're usually a student whose last explanation didn't connect. My approach is to figure out where the actual disconnect is, then rebuild from that point using examples and analogies that match how the student already thinks. I ask a lot of questions and try to keep the student doing most of the talking, because nothing exposes a shaky foundation faster than trying to explain something out loud.
I have also informally helped peers and family members with resumes, cover letters, graduate school essays, and case competition materials, so I'm comfortable with writing of all kinds. I'm patient, honest about what I do and don't know, and I genuinely enjoy the moment when something finally clicks for someone. One of my published projects, "Happiness at TCU," combined original survey research, an interview with the Dean of Admission, and data visualization in a Shorthand multimedia format, which gave me hands-on experience with the full reporting workflow from pitch to final publication. I can help students at the high school and college level with everything from lede writing and AP style to interviewing technique, narrative structure, and source attribution, as well as more advanced work in feature writing and multimedia storytelling. My background also bridges journalism and analytics through a Master's in Business Analytics, so I'm comfortable supporting students who want to incorporate data into their reporting or who are tackling research-heavy assignments.

I placed in the top ten at the University of Iowa Tippie Business Analytics Case Competition, where teams from across the country worked with real corporate datasets under tight deadlines, which sharpened my ability to translate raw numbers into a clear story and recommendation for non-technical audiences. I also completed a graduate internship at SavvoAI, a Series A startup, where I helped build scalable data infrastructure and supported reporting for fundraising and executive decision-making across more than fifteen cross-functional stakeholders. When I tutor data analysis, I focus on the workflow students actually need rather than just the syntax, because most analytics struggles come from the gap between knowing a tool and knowing when and why to use it.

I completed a Sociology minor at Texas Christian University as part of my undergraduate degree, with coursework covering social structures, research methodology, and the qualitative and quantitative methods sociologists use to study group behavior. I also produced an original mixed-methods research project titled "Happiness at TCU," which combined a structured student survey, quantitative demographic analysis, and a qualitative interview with the university's Dean of Admission, then published the findings in a multimedia format. That project gave me real practice with the full sociological research workflow, from designing valid survey questions and interpreting response patterns to analyzing interview data and presenting conclusions to a general audience. When I tutor sociology, I help students connect abstract concepts like social stratification, deviance, and institutional analysis to examples from their own lives, because the subject becomes far easier to understand and write about once it stops feeling like memorized vocabulary.

I scored a 5 on the AP United States History exam, which gives me firsthand experience with the course content, the document-based question format, and the kind of analytical writing the College Board rewards. My undergraduate work at Texas Christian University included a Sociology minor, which exposed me to American social history, research methodology, and the analytical thinking that translates directly to history coursework. As a substitute teacher in Fort Worth, I've covered middle school and high school social studies classrooms, which has given me a real sense of where students typically get stuck, whether that's memorizing dates without understanding causation or freezing up on document-based questions. When I tutor history, I focus less on rote memorization and more on the why behind events, because once a student understands cause and effect, the dates and names become much easier to retain.
