Hi, I'm Kolby! I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's in Neuroscience. Outside the classroom, I managed my school's swim club, worked as a research assistant in addiction neurophysiology research, and interned in a family medicine clinic. I took a gap year before enrolling in medical school, during which I worked as a dermatology technician. Through all of that, I gained a love education for actively listening and empowering the people I teach, from patients to students. I take the time to teach the "why" behind everything with plenty of drawings and analogies. I also challenge students with probing questions, plenty of practice, and by asking them to explain their own thought processes. This brings concepts full-circle as they feel ready to then tackle progressively complex content.
I spent two years tutoring small groups of 5-10 undergraduates in general chemistry, biology, and anatomy/physiology. I have also spent one year working with students aged 6-17 on a wide range of standardized test prep and school subjects across math, science, and English. Most of these students were left behind in traditional classrooms. I stepped in to give them a solid foundation of academic skills and study habits to propel them in school. Additionally, I have one year of experience in executive function coaching for elementary-middle school students with learning differences, such as ADHD and dyslexia. To make learning more fun and interactive, I primarily used video game-based activities to meet students at their passions.
Students, parents, and I are all a team. I'm open to any resources and extra information that can benefit my students. I'm just one message away, so feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a session!
