Bio

I am a teacher and mom of four homeschoolers that I have successfully tutored for almost ten years. In addition to teaching my own children, I founded a local microschool that has grown to over sixty students where I teach IEW (writing), grammar, and history as well as tutoring students in math from third grade to Algebra I. In this setting, I have tutored all students including those with dyslexia and ADHD, helping them become more confident learners. I can teach from all math curriculums, but am particularly knowledgeable with the Teaching Textbooks program. I also teach phonics, writing and Grammar.
While one on one tutoring is my primary focus through Wyzant, I also strive to teach children how to be more independent learners. Students will feel more successful as they "learn how to learn" using the SOAR Study Skills method that has been successful in our micro-school.
In addition to tutoring students, I am also available to tutor new homeschooling families on the nuances of learning at home. In our homeschool, my oldest child was able to graduate homeschool high school with 40+ college credits and is on track to graduate with a bachelor's degree in statistics by age twenty, debt free. My other children are on target to reach similar goals.
Let me be your mentor as you choose curriculum to fit your family's needs, learn how to structure your homeschool day, teach struggling and reluctant learners, homeschool high school, utilize dual credit (college credit) for older students, or start your own local micro-school.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have tutored Algebra I for three years and have an ability to patiently teach each student according to their best learning style. I have worked with students with ADHD and those who struggle with math and helped them become more independent and confident in their ability to learn.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have a degree in math based Economics from BYU which gave me a great math foundation but I really learned how to teach math as I have taught my own children year after year. I also tutor math at our local microschool, helping students of all ages succeed. My specialty is helping students learn skills to feel more confident in math which leads to more independence and better grades over time.
Homeschool

Homeschool

I have successfully homeschooled my four children from elementary school through high school. My oldest child graduated homeschool high school with 40+ college credits in addition to her homeschool subjects. My second oldest child is a senior this year and will graduate with college credits and a full homeschool transcript of classes. My third and fourth children are on course to do the same. I founded a micro-school in our local community three years ago that has grown to over sixty students where I teach various subjects and tutor students in math, the SOAR Study Skills method and writing through the Institute for Excellence in Writing. I can help your homeschool student in all their subjects as well as teach them to "learn how to learn." I also tutor homeschool families in maneuvering the beautiful world of homeschooling.
Phonics

Phonics

I have taught several students how to read phonetically, including struggling readers. I utilize phonic rules, repetition, patience and encouragement to help students grow in their reading proficiency. Since reading is the foundation of all learning, I work hard to ensure students feel confident in this skill.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have tutored pre-algebra for three years and have an ability to patiently teach each student according to their best learning style. I have worked with students with ADHD and those who struggle with math and helped them become more independent and confident in their ability to learn. I try and relate math to real-world scenarios as well as using manipulatives and examples to clarify problems.
Writing

Writing

I have taught writing to students age eight to seventeen for the past three years. My main focus is the Institute for Excellence in Writing program, but can tutor all styles of writing. I focus on structure and style to ensure students writing is correct technically and grammatically and allows the student's writing strengths to shine through.
