My coursework required extensive work in algebra, geometry, precalculus, and calculus, not just as academic exercises but as tools applied daily to physics research and problem-solving. This background gives me a strong grasp of not only how to solve math problems, but why the underlying concepts work, which I find helps students move past memorization and toward real understanding.

Over the past years, I have tutored high school students in a one-on-one setting, including my own children as they progressed through their high school math courses, as well as the children of close friends. I have helped them with coursework spanning Algebra I and II, Geometry, Precalculus, and Calculus AB/BC. My approach starts with identifying exactly where a student is getting stuck, whether it is a gap in foundational skills or difficulty with a specific new concept, and then breaking the material down into smaller, manageable steps. I rely heavily on worked examples and guided practice, encouraging students to attempt problems on their own while I am there to correct misunderstandings in real time rather than simply giving them answers.

Because much of this tutoring took place outside a formal classroom setting, I have been able to tailor each session closely to the individual student rather than a fixed curriculum, adjusting pace and explanation style based on how each student learns best. Helping my own children navigate the ups and downs of high school math, alongside tutoring friends' kids, has given me a well-rounded sense of the different ways students struggle and what actually helps them improve. I am now looking to bring this same patient, individualized approach to more students through Wyzant, with the goal of helping them build both stronger math skills and greater confidence in their own ability to succeed in the subject.
