Math Teacher for Prealgebra/Algebra: Building Lasting Confidence!

Hi! I'm Kara, a Texas Certified Math Teacher with 17 years of classroom experience, specializing in middle school math, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra 1. In my experience, many students who struggle with math have never truly felt comfortable or confident in the subject. They may have spent years believing that they simply aren't "math people", and changing that belief is one of my favorite parts of teaching. My first goal is always to help students feel comfortable and confident. I create a patient, encouraging, zero-frustration environment where mistakes are simply part of learning. If a student is willing to try, that is already a huge win—the understanding will follow!

I especially enjoy working with students who have struggled with math in the past or have fallen behind academically. As a classroom teacher, I designed and taught a specialized Target Math course for students who had never passed their state math assessment - and 80% of those students passed that year. I focused on identifying foundational gaps while rebuilding student confidence and helping them see themselves differently as math learners. Following those results, I was selected to lead intensive math interventions for students from other classrooms, and 73% passed on their subsequent attempt after just three weeks of remediation with me.

In addition to my classroom experience, I owned and operated a private math tutoring business for five years, helping hundreds of local middle school students strengthen their skills and improve their grades. My tutoring approach is highly individualized because every student struggles for a different reason. I take the time to determine where the gaps are, explain concepts in a way that makes sense to that particular student, and celebrate progress along the way. I genuinely love helping students reach that moment when something finally clicks and they realize, "Wait! - I CAN do this!"
