I graduated high school with honors in 2023 and moved on to the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. While I was at UWEC I took math courses through Linear Algebra and Physics courses through Dynamics. After 2 years in Eau Claire, I transferred to the University of Texas - Arlington to finish my mechanical engineering degree.
At UWEC, I also took a formal tutor training course and worked as a drop-in math tutor in the Academic Skills Center. Because the service was free and convenient for students, I got to work with a wide variety of students of different levels with different needs, and along with the formal discussion of interventionist/noninterventionist techniques and personal feedback I received in the training class, I learned how to identify each student's needs and tailor my approach. One good tactic I learned was asking the student to explain the problem or the concept to me to gauge both their confidence and actual ability.
