Hi, I'm Dana. For my undergraduate degree I attended Vanderbilt University and graduated magna cum laude with a double major in Elementary Education and Child Development. I taught for one year in a private school and then homeschooled my three boys while also tutoring, substituting, fostering, and working in co-op, preschool, and church settings. When my youngest son was in high school, he decided to attend a local private school, and I made the choice to pursue my Master's in Education Reading. I graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler with a 4.0. I also obtained my Reading Specialist Certification and a certification in Dyslexia Diagnosis and Intervention.

Due to my unique background, I have worked with all types of students in all grade levels and subject matters for over 20 years. I worked with my three boys and several foster children throughout their schooling and tried many different curriculums and teaching approaches. I've learned the importance of student interest and choice and authentic learning experiences. Through my tutoring and other teaching experiences, I have had success in various subjects and even helped one young man pass the ASVAB and fulfill his dream of joining the Marines.

I have enjoyed all my teaching experiences but especially enjoyed the experiences in which I was able to help the student in the subject area of reading. My love of reading and my love of working with students on their reading motivated me to pursue my master's degree and my Reading Specialist and Dyslexia certifications. With my experience and my education, I am equipped to help students in all areas and especially in the subject of reading. I am available for any questions you may have and will be easy to reach and quick to respond.
