Bio

I’ve been teaching math for 27 years and tutoring students for more than 20 years. I currently teach Algebra 1 and 8th-grade math and have experience teaching both middle and high school students. I earned my Math degree from San Diego State University and my Master’s in Education from Cal State Fullerton.

I’ve been teaching math for 27 years and tutoring students for more than 20 years. I currently teach Algebra 1 and 8th-grade math and have experience teaching both middle and high school students. I earned my Math degree from San Diego State University and my Master’s in Education from Cal State Fullerton.

I specialize in middle school math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry. I can also help with Trigonometry and Precalculus. When a student is struggling, I try to identify where they’re getting stuck and explain the math in a way that makes sense to them. My goal is for students to understand the math, not just get the right answer.

I can help with homework, test preparation, missing skills, or getting caught up in class. I offer both online and in-person tutoring.

Algebra 1

I have a degree in mathematics and 27 years of experience teaching math at the middle and high school levels. I have taught Algebra 1 in both California and Texas and currently teach Algebra 1 in Texas. I have also tutored Algebra students for more than 20 years. I focus on identifying where students are getting stuck, filling in missing skills, and explaining concepts in a way that makes sense to them.

I have a degree in mathematics and 27 years of experience teaching math at the middle and high school levels. I have taught and tutored students in Algebra and understand the skills students need to be successful in Algebra 2. I focus on breaking difficult concepts into manageable steps and identifying earlier algebra skills that may be causing problems. My goal is to help students understand the math and become more confident working independently.

While I never played on a formal basketball team, I did play in several men's leagues over the years. I've been playing the game on a regular basis for over 20 years and am an avid student of the game. I thoroughly understand offensive and defensive schemes as well as as all fundamentals of the game including shooting, passing, ball handling, rebounding, and many other aspects of the game. In short, I love basketball and embrace the opportunity to share my passion with those that are eager to learn more about it.

I feel I am qualified to tutor students to prepare for the CBEST test primarily because I passed the test myself with little effort. While it's true I was a math major, I didn't have to use any of my advanced knowledge to pass the test. All I needed were some simple understandings of math topics and lots of Number Sense. For many, the math portion of the test is the most challenging. As a math teacher I've acquired many methods to help students learn and retain math skills. I'll be ready to help you pass the test on your first attempt. Since 2000 I've taught more than 2500 students. I've worked with a full range of skills and deficits. As a math tutor I've worked with hundreds of students ranging from Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus. I enjoy the one-on-one attention tutoring brings over the classroom setting.

I've been working with computers since 1991. In that time I've repaired them and built some for friends. As a math student I took several computer programming courses and acquired a fair knowledge of Javascript, HTML, and CSS. As a teacher I've worked with students young and old to learn skills such as word processing and spreadsheet calculations.

I taught Geometry at Bellville High School and have also tutored Geometry students for many years. I focus on helping students understand why the concepts work rather than simply memorizing formulas and procedures. I can help with proofs, angles, triangles, similarity, circles, coordinate geometry, and other Geometry topics.
