I believe effective math instruction helps students grow academically while also building confidence and a positive mindset toward learning. I focus on helping students understand why math works, not just how to follow steps. I use the Concrete–Representational–Abstract (CRA) approach, which allows students to learn through hands-on activities, visual models, and real-world examples before moving to more abstract concepts. This helps students develop strong number sense and deeper understanding.
When tutoring, I work with students in grades three through five to strengthen foundational skills, support current classroom learning, and fill in gaps from previous grades. I create a supportive, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing as confident mathematicians.
