Hi! My name is Grace, and I'm a current senior and non-traditional student at Texas Christian University. I'm a member of the writing and rhetoric program within the English department. As for my academic qualifications, I have a 4.0 major GPA (3.9 overall), am a member of Pi Epsilon Pi honor society, and was the Fall 2024 winner of the Helen Hamilton Award for Excellence in Creative Expression (fiction prose).
I'm trained in quite a few forms of writing in addition to the typical literary analysis, like argument or long-form research; I could also be a good fit for students seeking writing help outside of English and literature classes! Fun facts: I'm a professional copywriter, meaning that I write marketing materials, and am an actively submitting fictionist.
As a teacher, I head-coached club/travel volleyball for 4 years, usually ages 14-17. I was driven by a passion for being a safe adult in young people's lives and creating methods to help them learn efficiently. My teaching philosophy includes respect, trust, and kindness. Though shorter than my time as a coach, I tutored for about a year in 2020!
One message I'd give to students working on their writing skills: everyone is a writer and everyone is always learning! When a professional novelist submits a draft, they get back a folder of notes. When a PhD sends in a paper, it's edited by their colleagues. The idea that magical, perfect writers exist on earth is false! (You should see my drafts.)
