I have been teaching and tutoring various subjects, including math, science, and ESOL, since 2004. I have taught in various environments, from tutoring students at their home to holding classroom sessions in public universities and schools.

I have a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.A. in Linguistics from UTEP, while working as a tutor in the chemistry, physics, and languages and linguistics department at various points. I have been teaching various science and engineering classes for the past 5 years as a certified teacher in the state of Texas.

My approach to teaching, aside from my love of sharing knowledge, is based on the belief that shown enough patience and understanding, and with enough practice and dedication, any student can succeed in even the most frustrating of subjects. I strive to recognize the specific needs of my students, and then do my best to address those thoroughly. I am a strong believer in recognizing my students' strengths and weaknesses and working with those for the best learning experience possible. I always do my best to instill the confidence and skills my students need to succeed.

Approved Subjects

Chemistry

Chemistry

For two years I served as a general chemistry peer leader at UTEP where we performed lab and workshop activities on a weekly basis to supplement in-class material with open discussion and demonstration of chemical principles. Since then I have also taught chemistry in an accredited private school and privately tutored the subject.
Geometry

Geometry

I have a very solid math background which includes an engineering degree, an 800 on the GRE math section both times I have taken the exam, and several years of math tutoring anywhere between elementary math and college calculus.
Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

I have a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso, where I graduated with a 3.6 GPA in May 2006 and scored a 90 on the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. Though I went into a different subject for my graduate studies, I have kept my math and science skills sharp through personal study and tutoring. I have retained my entire engineering textbook library from this time, from which I am able to refresh my knowledge and prepare for lessons.
Physical Science

Physical Science

I have been tutoring science since 2004. This includes everything from elementary science to college physics and chemistry.
Physics

Physics

I have served as a general physics tutor at both the high school and collegiate levels. With my background in mechanical engineering, I have a deeper understanding of the subject than one would normally get just from taking the course alone, including applications of basic physical principles and the subtle mathematics behind basic physics.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have an engineering degree and have taught math, physics, engineering and other subjects heavily relying on math for over a decade.

Very Patient

My daughter is very happy with her classes with Lance W. The most important thing is that she feels comfortable and that Lance explains things for her to really understand. Very patient.

Great job

Since day one we have been impressed with how organized and prepared Lance was and is. He seems to be making great strides working with our son and getting him to understand what was once confusing for him. Continue the good work!

Friendly and patient. Recommended!

Lance is a very patient person to work with. His advanced knowledge of mathematics allows him to teach the most easiest and effective formulas to solve the problem. His mathematical vocabulary is constant which actually helped me know what I was to solve for. Lance is a very flexible tutor who's goal is for success for the student, I've had many sessions with Lance and I have expanded my knowledge. I plan to continue with his services as my mathematical career develops. If you're looking for a modern teacher with advanced knowledge and helpful skills, Lance is the tutor to choose!

Excellent tutor!

Today's session went well. Mr. W. was prepared, patient, and thorough. He provided invaluable instruction, key tips, and is very well-versed in Algebra II. I anticipate that future sessions will either be comparable to this one or better. The second session was comparable to the first session, Mr. W. is very consistent. The final session was great; Mr. W. always went above and beyond to ensure understanding. Had I known how beneficial having a tutor could be, I would have sought out one at the beginning of my math course. If I have a need in the future for a math tutor, I will without a doubt seek out Mr. W. In, closing I highly recommend that anyone in need of a “superb” math tutor – ask for Mr. W. you won’t be disappointed. v/r Mr. K.
