I help high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, researchers, and writers transform dense or unclear academic drafts into polished, structurally sound, and genuinely readable writing — without losing the sophistication of your ideas. Through a shared inquiry, I also encourage deeper exploration of ideas and propose alternative ways of thinking about concepts.

With a Humanities PhD and an MFA, plus years of experience as an educator and academic researcher, I understand both the rigor academic writing demands and the clarity it often lacks. My approach centers on three things:

1) Editing that respects your voice. I don't just fix grammar — I sharpen your sentences so they say exactly what you mean, tightening prose without flattening your intellectual style.

2)Structural feedback that strengthens your argument. Many strong ideas get lost in weak organization. I help you identify where your argument is buried, redundant, or out of order, and work with you to restructure so your logic flows clearly from claim to evidence to conclusion.

3)Translating complexity into clarity. If you know your ideas are strong but struggle to get them onto the page in a way that reads smoothly, this is where I help most. I specialize in taking dense, jargon-heavy, or overly complicated drafts and distilling them into language that is precise, confident, and accessible — while keeping the academic register your work requires.

I work with dissertations, theses, journal articles, grant proposals, and coursework at any stage — from a rough first draft to final polish before submission. Each session is tailored to your discipline, your deadline, and your specific writing goals.

Whether you need a full structural overhaul or a close line-edit before you submit, I'll help you turn your ideas into writing that reflects the quality of your thinking.

Approved Subjects

African American Studies

African American Studies

I hold a PhD in Africana Studies and an MFA, along with a decade of university teaching experience across the humanities, giving me deep expertise in both scholarly rigor and the craft of writing. As a visual artist and academic researcher, I bring a unique sensitivity to structure, voice, and clarity that shapes how I approach every essay. My background as a personal coach means I don't just correct writing — I help students build confidence and develop their own voice as thinkers and communicators. Combining strong public speaking skills with a talent for distilling complex ideas into accessible language, I'm well-equipped to help students at any level strengthen their essay writing.
Debate

Debate

I hold a PhD in Africana Studies and an MFA, along with a decade of university teaching experience that includes courses on debates in American History, African American History, and African History, giving me deep expertise in constructing and interrogating arguments across complex historical and cultural contexts. My BA in Human Ecology trained me as a broad, interdisciplinary thinker, which I bring to helping students strengthen their reasoning, anticipate counterarguments, and think critically on their feet. As an academic researcher, I understand how to build an argument that holds up under scrutiny — a skill I translate directly into coaching debate technique and structure. My background as a personal coach means I don't just teach debate tactics — I help students build genuine confidence in their voice and quick thinking under pressure. Combining strong public speaking skills with a talent for distilling complex ideas clearly and persuasively, I'm well-equipped to guide debaters at any level toward sharper, more compelling argumentation.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I help high school and college students turn shaky first drafts into essays that are clear, well-argued, and genuinely sound like the student's own voice — whether it's a class assignment, college application essay, or timed in-class essay. With a PhD, an MFA, and 10+ years teaching writing at the university level, I know exactly what graders and admissions readers are looking for, and I break that down into concrete, practical steps rather than vague notes in the margins. Students consistently tell me they leave sessions not just with a better essay, but a clearer sense of how to structure their next one on their own. I tailor every session to the student's grade level, subject, and deadline, and I'm comfortable with everything from a rushed night-before edit to building essay-writing skills over several weeks.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I bring over a decade of university teaching experience and a career of public speaking across diverse contexts — including podcasts, academic research talks, AI symposiums, nonprofit events, and K-12 schools — giving me the range to communicate effectively with virtually any audience. My PhD in Africana Studies and MFA reflect both scholarly depth and creative command of language, while my BA in Human Ecology trained me as a broad, interdisciplinary thinker able to connect complex ideas across fields. As an academic researcher, I know how to distill dense material into clear, compelling talking points that resonate whether I'm addressing scholars, students, or general audiences. My background as a personal coach shapes how I teach public speaking — helping clients build authentic confidence, not just polished delivery. Combining strong on-the-spot thinking with a talent for engaging diverse audiences, I'm well-equipped to help others sharpen their own voice and presence as speakers.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

I hold a PhD, an MFA, and a BA, along with a decade of university teaching experience across the humanities, giving me firsthand knowledge of what it takes to research, structure, and defend a thesis at the highest academic level. As an academic researcher myself, I understand the unique challenges of sustaining a complex argument across an extended piece of writing, from organizing chapters to ensuring your evidence consistently supports your central claims. My background as a personal coach means I don't just edit — I help thesis writers navigate the isolation and pressure of long-form academic work while building genuine confidence in their voice as scholars. Combining strong public speaking skills with a talent for distilling complex ideas into clear, precise language, I'm well-equipped to guide thesis writers through everything from early structural planning to final polish before submission.
