Thank you for considering me as your potential tutor! My name is Juan and I offer tutoring in areas related to geometry, trigonometry, algebra, statics, physics, calculus, and differential equations. Although I have no teaching credentials, I am a senior mechanical engineering student and undergraduate researcher at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and the University of Texas El Paso. I have completed courses such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics, mechanics of materials, calculus, and differential equations. My research experience includes materials science, computational fluid dynamics, and energy systems design. Studying engineering has given me a strong understanding of math, physics, mechanical systems, and programming.
For the past year and a half, I have organized group study sessions for undergraduate courses and offered software and hands-on training for incoming research students. In these situations, I encourage students to practice difficult problems independently and consult me when they find a gap in their knowledge. I try to minimize lecturing and allow students to articulate the limits of their understanding. This helps me focus on the specific area the student is struggling with. I also teach students how to use modern tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini to generate example problems and review their work.
Throughout my undergrad I have regularly helped students my age (19-24) in group settings as well as one-on-one with topics ranging from abstract mathematics to hands-on laboratory experiments. Being a student myself gives me a deep understanding of where other students are likely to struggle. This past semester for a course on Computational Fluid Dynamics I held a 2 hour long workshop with my classmates to help them understand the coding software. In addition, I provided virtual help after-hours and the following 3 days to make sure they completed their projects on time. My goal is to help students and lifelong learners get one step closer to mastering their subjects of inter
